Do we have a true #1 WR?

The closest one IMO is Ginn, and even he has only proven that he has the speed to be a #1. He would, at minimum, have to improve his hands. Beyond that, I don't think he has the strength or toughness to get off the line against even an average jam at the line. There may be other weaknesses that eyes more attuned to spotting stuff on film than mine would see.

Edit: I should add that I'm talking hypotheticals and potential here. We all know Smitty is our #1 by default. But I think that, if we played Smitty in the slot at this point like he might be better off doing given a better situation with the WRs, Ginn would have the best chance to stretch the field as #1s do.

No but getting one is a b!tch.

Yea they just do not grow on trees. We also need an offensive tackle, guard and shut down corner and need to resign Cam and Hardy. I think we will have to take what the market and pocketbook gives . Our number 1 priority should be getting Cam resigned

Of course Steve Smith is the obvious answer, but a look at the numbers you will see it's pretty darn close amongst.....everyone.

Steve Smith- 32receptions 335yards

3tds

Brandon LaFell-21receptions 278yards 3tds

Ted Ginn-20receptions 357yards 2tds

Greg Olsen-30receptions 360yards 2tds

Smith leads in receptions

Greg Olsen leads in yards

It's a two way tie for tds

Ginn easily leads yards per with a 17.9avg

Nobody has really emerged as the definite #1. It seems like every game it's a different player that steps up or sometimes down.

This is also a good sign that shows Cam does indeed spread the ball around. These last few weeks he hasn't been forcing passes. He took a sack last night that was actually a good decision.

It will be interesting going forward seeing how we handle the Wr position with only Smith and Olsen under contract after this year.

I think Smith is the clear no 1, the other just benefit massively from the D paying so much attention to Steve. What we really need is a true no2!

Smith needs probably start easing back into the 2 or 3 and at this point Panthers FO had hoped LaFell would be ascending but he's not. He has all the traits of a #1 but something is preventing him from getting to that spot. Strangely its the same thing that they said when he was coming out. He makes all the types of catches, he can block, but he's sometimes has lapses in concentration. I would call LaFell a 1/2 at this point just like Smitty though ( Where Ginn is a 2/3). If LaFell wants to be play that 1 he's got to have better concentration.

I dont think Ginn will have have the balance or coordination to play the 1 but we'll see. He needs a little weight first.

Julio was second to Roddy last year. Marshall has taken a back seat to Alshon several times this season.

Julio had 1100 yards and 10 TDs last year....89 isn't in this tier anymore of a weapon. Julio hasn't even peaked yet

Julio will not be more than he is now. He also is one of those guys that just doesnt have the balance or coordination to get any better. White will always be the better or will have been.

Just bc Atl has 2 great WRs.....doesn't mean Juilio isn't a beast.

1228 total yards and 10 TDs....in his 2nd NFL season. Juilo is a beast. Juilo is an pace and developing to be better than White.

Juilio was on pace for 1856 rec yards this year....he was ballin

We don't have anyone close to that. Atlanta has 2 1's....we don't have any presently

lol pace, stats, production, Cra. . buddy, stop for a second ok?

Will Julio be able to make those tough sideline catches like White does as good as White does. He doesnt imo, he makes bigger downfield plays. On average, if you look at the type of throws they are catching from and the routes theyre running White tends to make the more difficult catches on the sidelines. He could go across the middle but why do that when you have Julio, who is almost as good and is younger. Injuries are clouding all that so I dont know about this year.

and I never said Atl doesnt have two great receivers. I said Julio will never be as good as White is or was. . not sure about his longevity yet.

He is a different type WR than White....no doubt.

Jones is very young. There is nothing that suggests he won't be better than White. At this stage, he certainly look to be at this stage in his career. If keep improving....which he should he will be better. White peaked and Jones is BEASTING and is still on the rise

Point remains, Jones is better than anything we currently have. We have 2s. He is a one that sometimes plays the role of a 2
