Do we have a true #1 WR?

are you fuging serious?????????

Falcons=Julio

Bears= brandon marshall

Texans= Andre Johnson

disregard this if you were joking

Really- ATL fans say it's Roddy. Stats agree in 2012 http://espn.go.com/nfl/team/stats/_/name/atl/year/2012

Bears- Marshall has less yards than Alshon, despite more targets. http://espn.go.com/nfl/team/stats/_/name/chi/chicago-bears

Houston- I thought DeAndre had more targets and catches

Point being, you don't necessarily need a true 1 if you have capable guys and a QB who can spread the ball around.

Steve Smith is our #1 WR. No his receiving yards are not where they should be for a #1 but our opponents know and treats him like our #1. You will put your best CB on your opponents best WR and usually with help over the top. The only other receiver that has commanded help over the top is Ginn but not because they view him as our #1 but because of his speed. Smith is getting up in age, but he's by far the best WR on our team.

#1 WR is overrated these days... These corners are too talented to rely on a "#1 WR" anymore.. The days of Elite Qb's is among us where 6-10 different people collect receptions.

We don't need a #1 receiver.. We need a Talented Receiving corps.. IMHO we are the closest to that right now since our Superbowl run year.. Smitty (Beast), Lafell (Greatly improved), Olsen (Reliable), and Ginn (Unexpected Playmaker)..

If your offense can put up 30 points it really doesn't matter where it comes from.

It has been a long time since the Panthers have had this many weapons in the passing game, even if Smitty is no longer a dominant #1 like he was for the past decade.

This might be the best receiving corp since 2003, and maybe even better overall counting Olsen.

I guarantee you no defensive coordinator is taking our receiving corp lightly.

I would rather have our current receiving corp than a more dominant Smitty and no one else

Why does it have to be a dominant + less than. Why can't we have a more dominant Steve Smith a long with everyone else. That's what makes a team dangerous. Yea we've scored 30 points the last few weeks but those were all average to below average defenses. We only scored 7 against Seattle and 6 against Arizona. This offense has shown they can put up points against subpar teams but they're going to have to prove they can do it against good teams.

I'll echo some of the other posters here in stating that I'm not sure a #1 receiver is really necessary.

I'd rather have 4 good receivers than one elite one and 3 scrubs. Smith may have lost a step, but he's still very good - and LaFell/Ginn/Olsen make up a great receiving corps. I'm happy with it.

Week 8, plenty of film for teams to plan our Offense. Tampon used Revis on Smitty a lot, and Smitty still had a Smitty kinda game. Win win. They can occasionally single Steve, hoping to limit the other guys.  We had success no matter what they tried.

We spread the ball around because Cam goes through his progressions. You ain't open, next. You ain't open, next. That is what we all have been waiting for.

Think about it this way. At the end of the year we could have 4 WRs with 700+ yards. With any 1 or 2 pushing 900.

Now with that said, I would still love to have a true #1 to build around. Decent size, good speed, a wiz at routes, catches on quick, and willing to block. Oh, and above all, GREAT hands. I trust Gettlemen has a plan. I just have to hope this WR is on his radar. Cuz I know I am going to here a poo zillion ton of WR names from fellow Huddlers who just know who we need to fill this spot.

Having a true #1 WR would allow Smitty, who no longer has to be a focal point to be effective, to play as long as he wants. Ginn Jr. has earned that #3 spot. And seems to be enjoying his return duties as well. Maybe he will re-up at a reasonable price? We did resurrect his career after all. If not, maybe Lafell at a reasonable price. If not? Who knows? Not really a priority if we get a true #1.

You just have to take into account he is not going to have the #s, well, fewer targets and reception at least,  of some of his #1 WR brethren in this Offense.  I can live with that.

One last thought. I know hoping a rookie WR can be productive from the get-go is cloud surfing. The difference being, we are no longer THAT Panthers. Things like this just may start to happen for THESE Panthers. We have to brace for the worst case. We draft a stud WR, and he works out. Oh the horror.

tl.dr. version. Give us a Stud to pair with Ginn Jr., and Smitty can waltz into retirement at his own tune. Oh yeah, that's how you surround your QB.

That's one of the problems with winning. Folks sugarcoat things. Sure Smitty's #s may be down, but his talent level it still up there. It would take a really really good WR to subplant Smitty as #1. IMO.

You cannot replace Smitty. You can however, upgrade the position. A good #2 ain't gonna make it. Even at this stage. You have to go to a true #1 to upgrade Smitty. Going to be fun watching how Gettlemen approaches this dilemma.

Here's the deal. A quality #1WR cost you 5-6 mil, or more. Or...you get guys who fit at 2mil a year. Guy comes in, guy works out, guy get modest raise.

You just have to decide how you want to disperse the money in your WR corp. 1 - 1 and 3 -3s. Or 4 1.5 - 2s?

Me, I'd keep the talent level as high as the budget allowed. Keep throwing draft picks at Studs until one clicked. And ride Cam to Never Never Land.

We have a young Defense. We should take this opportunity to draft for Offense in the next few drafts. O-line, WR, TE, I don't care. We need and infusion of young talent for our O. Then rinse and repeat.

Jordy Nelson is pretty good.

Do the Broncos have a #1 WR?

He fits what I want. What GB had their for few moments. 1 - 1 and 3 - 2s. That talent level will spread a D out I tell ya what.

Or maybe...2 Studs and 2 - 2s. It all comes down to how young you can stay to keep costs down.

Or...keep throwing a high draft pick at a Stud WR until you get 2. Then when 1 leaves start over.

Yeah I know. Folks will say, look at all the teams with 3 let alone 4 quality WRs. That getting 4 quality WRs is a lot to ask. I say, Fug em'. We gots Gettlemen.
