At 4-3 the Panthers could move to the next level with a trade.

Yeah we don't do cool stuff like that tho

Like sending Beason to NY? :startle: (of course, some did not think that was cool).   I think we have a new sheriff in town, Blood, and I would not be surprised.  I am guessing we have about a 30-40% chance of making a deal.  I am in favor, however, of sending players.  Players I might consider sending to a team (understand the phrase "to get something, you have to sacrifice something.")

1. Frank Alexander (Addison and Horton are making more noise)

2. Jonathan Stewart (as long as DW and Tolbert are healthy....not sure about the contract situation or what we could get for Sergeant Sideline)

Would you trade one of the above players (maybe a late round draft pick thrown in) for a Gordon?  I would under the team's current situation.

One of them has dropped a potential touchdown pass in almost every game this season.

1 Seattle Game- No Td drops but big drops by Olsen

2. Bills Game-Ginn alligator arms a ball that should have been a score

3. Giants- a That was just a thrashing if anyone dropped anything it doesn't matter

4. Arizona-Pppplease don't get me started

5. Vikings Game-Again can't recall

6. Rams-Smitty dropped what would have been a score if he held on(defender fell down)

7. Tampa- of course Ginn drops the bomb and Lafell drops a first down

Dropped passes suck. It's not like other teams get lucky and their dropped passes are no problem.

Pass rate is the stat.

He had 3 drops all of last year and a drop rate of 4% which is one of the best in the league.

In 2011 he had 2 drops with a rate of 3.6%

This year he has 1 with a drop rate of 3% coming into last night.

But boy, what spectacular drops when he did (Kansas City last  year, and "Popping out the Breadbasket" during the recent Tampa Bay game). Lol

I wouldn't touch Gordon with a 10 foot pole. Nicks scares me too honestly. I think if there was ever gonna be a trade with NYG it would've already happened when we traded Beas.

We aren't going to win the Super Bowl this year so I think we should just work with what we got and then focus on bringing in a young talent next offseason.

I swear that half this board only watches Panther games and has no clue about general NFL talking points. The expectations for our players sometimes are ridiculously high. EVERY receiver in the game drops passes now and again. Our receivers don't drop them at any higher rate than any other team's top three, and, in fact, they drop them at a much lower rate than most.

I sometimes question how many real NFL fans we have here. Most are only Panthers fans and only watch Panthers games and get info about every other team from ESPN highlights, or NFL.com game stats. That crap is misleading as all get out. They convince you into believing everyone is either perfect or crap, nothing in between. I'm not downing anyone, I was once inserted in the Matrix as well. But Morpheus has freed me, and I'll never go back. Even if ignorance is bliss.

My advice would be to watch more games, NFL Game Rewind is a great resource. It'll open your eyes up to the lies they're selling you. The choice is yours.

The only issue I can see with trading for a receiver is that there would be immense pressure to: a - learn the scheme, and b - build chemistry with Cam. Now perhaps a receiver like Nicks or Gordon could slot straight in, but to be honest, Cam seems to be doing well and building strong bonds with the current crop. So maybe the team should wait until off season and either draft a new #1 receiver or sign one in free agency/via a trade.

I wouldn't complain if we do get a new weapon for Cam this season, but it would have to be the right guy that could come in and be that guy for the long term. Nicks or Gordon might fit that, and if the deal is right then perhaps Gettleman will go for it. Personally I don't see any movement happening though, I think Gettleman will draft Cam's big time weapon.

IMO, you are correct sir. I know we are winning, and that is all well and great. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. We are still trying to figure out who we are. Which is why it would surprise me greatly if we made a trade this year

We are in the 1st year of the Cam and Shula experiment. Let's figure out our identity, and what we want to do, before we throw draft picks at Vet WRs that may not fit our style. Smitty, WR with return man skills. Ginn Jr. WR with return man skills. Maybe we are looking for a true #1 with the same skill set? Let's evaluate what we have before we start tinkering. Especially with the amount of resources you may be dealing with.

We have found out we can win with Cam and this WR corp. That is all we know. Maybe Gettlemen and Co. feel they are at a place where they can wait on the draft to find that Stud WR. Save those picks, and money, for a shot at a Stud on the cheap.

Let us not forget. This team from top to bottom. Thought this is how we would play from the beginning of the year. And with the way we are playing at the moment, I also don't think they are thinking they need a #1 right now.

All I know for sure? Gettlemen does love his draft picks, and he can evaluate with the best of em'. If he is going to give away draft picks, for a WR, I have to hope he truly believes he is making the right decision.

My only true reservation against trading picks for a #1WR this year. We lose picks for a basically 9 game rental fee. Cuz, a #1WR is going to cost us a good chunk of money to resign. However, a sign and trade deal with a contract we can live with could work.

If we bring in a Vet. This team will judge him on how hard he works, and his play on the field. But then again, tough to be a #1 without putting in the work. Maybe that is why so many highly drafted WR fail. They can't/don't/won't put in the work, then make mistakes, get all butthurt when you point it out.

Sorry, I love those tangents. I have a Niece that can take 10 minutes to give you a phone message.

tl/dr. version. Sure, we could use a Stud outside. And we will work on obtaining said Stud. But if you can look at Gettlemen, and his history? You have to come to the conclusion, the answer is more than likely in the draft.

tl/dr. version 2.0. Think about it this way. From the bottom up, we have one of the best rosters we have every had. (And it is definitely showing.) If you can upgrade our roster, will play for what we offer? Welcome aboard.

Do Nicks or Gordon fit that mold? I don't know.

I agree. IF a Stud WR was all that was keeping us from a Super Bowl run? Maybe make this kind of deal. I just don't see it. We as a Franchise don't do these things often. Gettlemen comes from a Franchise that doesn't do these things often. We are smack dab in an evaluation period, changing things now would hinder that.

Lot's of reason we will not be making any deals. But then again. I trust Gettlemen to do whatever he feels is necessary to improve this team. If he can pull off a deal that brings us a Stud WR, I have to believe he feels he made the right decision on the whole.

As a fan, I hope we can make something like this happen. I just don't see it.

I feel the same about Gordon and Nicks.  We are still learning about Gettlemen as we watch him navigate through his first year. I expect him to do something, but not in desperation .

We are not close to an elite team yet and to think otherwise is foolish. We are a team just finding it's legs and beginning to build a foundation to become a top tier team in the near future. We are good enough to win some we shouldn't and lose some we shouldn't. One or two more years of good drafts coupled with key FA aquisitions along with Cam progressing will get us much closer. Let's remember that this is the first time in five years that this team has been over .500 and it's by one game......still have a way to go before we are ready to compete at a high level on a consistent basis.

I can convince folks we are way better than you claim in one sentence.

We have won 10 of our last 15 games.

Yeah, uh huh, that's right. Drink that in, think about it for a few secs.

We started what? 8-16 with Cam. Since then, we have gone 10-5. The future has already arrived. It pretty much started week 12 of last year.

If all goes to plan. We very well could go into the ain't game 9-3, riding an 8 game winning streak. Ready to show the Division, nay the world, Big Brother is here to bully the neighborhood.

Worst case. We lose to the 9ers and go into the ain'ts game 8-4, and on a 3 game winning streak.

We are young, we are strong, we gots Cam, and Gettlemen seems to be our Dream GM. Jump on aboard. You are wasting too much giddyness.

Thanks floppin. Somebody gets it.

I also doubt many in this thread have actually spent time watching Lafell on game day.

    • You are wise beyond your years to agree with me.  I think Fields is the free agent with the most upside---I mean, you keep looking until your franchise qb is on the roster-we are all hoping that Bryce will grab it, but he has not yet.
    • he is a sleeper--I am not good at predicting college QBs who succeed in the NFL, but this guy is going to change my luck.  I just think he'd be a good fit here.  4th round, maybe 5th.
