At 4-3 the Panthers could move to the next level with a trade.

Yeah I said it.

Currently the Panthers sit in a "pretty good" category.  Some positions are over performing, while others are finally living up to their billing.  Here are a couple players I think we should at least make a call about that could really pay dividends down the road. Many of these suggestions you all will not like, but it's ok to be wrong so dont feel bad :)

Player: Josh Gordon, WR,  Browns

Offer: 3rd this season 5th next

Gordon is big, strong and fast. He is also, importantly young and #1 receiver potential.  The Browns are in some odd in the mix but trading away stuff mode. Getting Gordon would give Cam another big play threat and possibly provide a player he could gel with for the next few years.  My offer is high here and it's an exceptionally high risk move. Gordon is one J from being suspended for reefer smoking. That said, risk nothing gain nothing.

Fred Davis, TE, Skins

Offer: 6th round pick.

This trade would be roughly the same as the Beason trade to the Giants.  Davis "could" play prior to his Achilles injury and one has to wonder if a change of scenery would do him a ton of good, again ala Beason. Losing a sixth (maybe even a 7th would do it) isn't ball busting. Davis does have a cool 1 million we would have to deal with, but we have the room.

Hakeem Nicks, WR, Giants

Offer: 3rd round pick

Surprise! Bet you didn't see this one....  Sure, such a trade has been spoken of here ad nauseum and it holds some merit. In a perfect world Nicks could have been part of the Beason trade. I'd have to assume it was at least part of the discussion and the Giants wanted way too much for him. Since the Beason trade Nicks has done next to nothing and even gotten old Coughy calling him out in the media.  The hitch in this trade is the fact Nicks is on the last year of his contract and likely wants $$$. If a deal could be worked out, that made sense for the Panthers more than Nicks this trade could be gold.    Yes yes I understand "but but injuries". I have an illogical hope that some good Southern cooking/women/weather would heal this young man.

Thats just 3 off the top of my head.

One of trade that has happened that breaks my heart is missing out on Eugene Monroe when he went from Jacksonville to Balt. He could have really solidified this O-Line. I've wracked my brain over coffee and bagel for an OLineman that could be had. Thing is I feel teams value a good OLineman over a good skill player. Sure we'd love to pull Joe Staley from the Browns or Oher from Balt, but it would cost so damn much we would be F'ed moving forward.

Sadly, the amount of tradeable assets the Panthers have right now is little, as we lack exceptional depth in many areas and where we do have exceptional depth the players carry little trade value or contracts stop the process.

For example, everyone has a hard on to trade Stew. The problem is we would take something like a 10million dollar cap hit to do so, thus making it impossible to trade him.

The only other person I can think of that is a high value asset would be Hardy. Especially considering the players behind him (Horton/Alexander) can step in and contribute (not as dynamically).  Hardy will be  is likely looking for the same payday CJ got. Fact of the matter is that poo died when Hurney left and the new CBA came out. Sadly not in that order for the Panthers.

I have no doubt we could likely pry a 2nd and some change from an upper tier squad looking for a dynamic pass rusher to take their D to the next level. Not to mention Hardy is athletic enough to play in a 3-4 look as well. All that said, I doubt Papa Getts makes such a move.  He can keep Hardy all season, then slap the Franchise tag on him to keep him in house for contract talks and ensure 1st round pick compensation if he leaves.  I'd guess such a tag would be around 11-12 million, which currently fits under our cap space with some spare change.

Just some post win thoughts.

3 straight blowout wins, 4 of 5 blowout wins. I get the philosophy, but I also get not messing with something that doesn't seem to be broken. And honestly, the only attractive candidate you posted Kurb was Nicks and I feel like we would have traded for him when we traded Beason if it was going to happen.

good point. if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

what they are doing seems to be working and building momentum. by the time we get past atlanta and start playing good teams with good defenses, we should have things gelling really well.

if we can do well with what we have and the chemistry we are developing, i think we should keep down that path. the only thing i could really see doing that would really help is adding another pass catching TE.

The browns are willing to trade gordon they just aren't going to take pennies on the dime. They said not likely to happen, they didn't rule out the possibility. That said I would give a 3 and next years 5 easy. Now nicks on the other hand hasnt look like the same player. He's droping passes and not separating like he use to. Can't give a 3 for him.

    • i felt good for those few games that bryce didn't look like the worst in the league. all that fell apart again sunday.  i'm borderline just bailing on it all. i've been hanging on by a thin thread for several years. i mean it's not even fun to watch any football right now.
