Peppers Contract extention?

I heard last night on NFL Network that Peppers was going to get somewhere in the neighborhood of $40mil guaranteed. They said he was trying to work out a deal to get off the Franchise Tag. They talked about him and one other guy, but I cant remember who. Has anyone else heard this or are the NFL Network guys just assuming, to try to generate a story?

I hope this is legit as the deadline to get deals done for franchise players is July 15th (I think) Forty mil guaranteed is ok IMO as that is about what he would make this year and next if we were to franchise him again although there were no specifics on the length of the contract. If we can clear a bit of cap space in the interim to sign some OL depth it would be huge for this team entering training camp.

peppers' agent said that Julius is open to long term contract discussions just after he signed the tender. 40 mil guaranteed only sounds like a 3 yr deal though since Pep is now worth about 14 mil a year.

40 Million guaranteed and 40 Million unguaranteed more for a 6 year deal sounds about right...

I did not know there was a deadline to sign contract extentions for Franshise Players. So if a deal is not done before July 15th he is stuck under the Franchise tag?

    • What are the matchups, stats and superlatives?   I think this will be a hard game. Bucs are a very balanced team on offense:  7th  in total yards per game, 7th in passing, 10th in rushing. Baker is having another career year even better than last year but despite missing his Godwin and Evans. Bucs defense is poor (29th) particularly passing defense, but we’re also depleted in our receiving with Coker and Sanders likely out. Running Chuba is key but their defense is better against the run. (16th) I think this is likely going to require us to score a lot of points to keep up and hopefully the home field advantage tips the scale in our favor. My other concern is our run defense and being able to stop their rookie study Bucky Irving who the Bucs have shifted more carries to recently and he’s averaging 5.4 ypc and knows how to get into the endzone with 5 TDs so far.
    • This is nonsense and you know it. People will be happy when we are consistently and convincingly winning games against good teams. There are people in here talking down to others after losses and barely beating the terrible NY Giants. If you want to strut around here like only you are a real Panthers fan and rage pooing posts because your jimmies are rustled then hey good luck with all that. I hope you have a lovely Thanksgiving.
    • Who had the massive meltdown last year? Hope they feel better this year.
