  1. 1. Is Cam Newton Our Franchise QB?

I think some would rather have Marino over Flacco, when in reality the flash and records of one are always trumped by the ring of another.  Records or the ring?  Is Cam good enough to make us a perennial playoff contender?  Yes.  Is he good enough to win a championship?  Yes.  If the QB's of all of the defensive teams that have won over the years are franchise QBs, so is Cam.  Eli isn't making anyone better this year, neither is Big Ben.  Brad Johnson and Trent Dilfer were good enough to win rings, Cam is better than both, even Mark Sanchez got to the AFC Championship as the worst rated QB in the NFL, it's a team game.

Peyton has 1 ring, so do Brees and Rodgers, Favre as well.   I don't care how many records they have, their success is overrated unless the rings are there.  A franchise QB is hard to find, even a game manager can win a ring with the right team.  I want the ring, everything else is for chest puffing contests for fans at the bars.  As terrible as Delhomme was at times, he got us to the superbowl, some people can't see what we have here.

Cam is proceeding down the checklist of QB attributes and learning every day, and improving.  If you don't see it you are blind.  He's durable, and at the minimum is capable of being a game manager good enough to lead us for the next decade.  He's huge, and the only QB with his skill set.  The difference in the teams that are contenders and teams that are in perpetual misery is the QB position. Cam came in a little rough around the edges, but he's  becoming polished, and his ceiling is higher than any QB in the league, while his floor is still good enough to get us that ring.

Franchise QB?  Absolutely.

Easier to pick up a proven WR in free agency than it is to draft a WR. To much risk.

I've seen waaaayy too many free agent receivers not live up to their contracts.

Mind you, there is one free agent receiver I absolutely want to see us sign.

His name: Ted Ginn

Tell that to A.J. Green.

For how much it would cost to sign just one top FA WR, we could address most of our o line weaknesses. I'll go with o line.

Yeah and if the team would have listened to me we would have had Green and Luck.  Green was a slam dunk.  Who next year in the draft can you say that about?

You make a good argument then try to mold Cam in to fit what you want.  Cam still needs to prove he can win against good defenses.  So far this year that hasn't happened.  But the points you made about having a superstar QB is very valid.  You don't need one to win a superbowl.  Just one that limits his mistakes and can "manage" the game.

We drafted who we drafted, I'm not going to sit around rethinking the past. I was just pointing out a fact.

There will be talent in the draft.

A franchise QB is someone who makes the team better and helps the team win games. So far Cam is not that. Look at Luck without him the colts would be a terrible team. Cam doesn't make the players around him better.

You have to account for the fact that the Colts were a perennial playoff team until Peyton went down with an injury. They put absolute garbage qbs on the field that year. Quit and got the number 1. Luck stepped into a very good situation where the main piece missing to win was a good qb. Luck is a good Qb. Cam would have had comparable success if he had been the pick for them. Cam was drafted and put onto a garbage team devoid of much talent. Yet he still managed to get wins his first season. I believe Luck would have done about the same.

Nice plan. With Clausen throwing passes to AJ Green,  the Panthers would've been in perfect position to take Luck with the #1 overrall pick the following year. Did this work on Madden too?

And to answer your question, Sammy Watkins and Mike Evans.

So who next year is like Green in which is a slam dunk at WR?

Not every WR is going to be as obvious a talent as Green. They don't always have to be in the 1st either, we've just been terrible at drafting receivers, but Hurney is gone. Sometimes you never know, look at Keenan Allen in San Diego after all those teams passed on him.
