Cam haters, what you should have learned from the last 3 games

top dawg

Cam has looked a lot better. He is also sitting in the pocket more, going through his progressions, etc. I always complained that he struggled when doing so but now he's making it work.

The games have been easier but I'm hoping the team uses this to build it's confidence because it'll only get tougher.

....somebody has been paying attention.. YES!!!!!!!!!!! (fist pump)

yeah it's amazing that over three different seasons the offense the panthers are running has been dumbed down in three different ways that are seemingly 100% contradictory

i can't wait until we draft a more traditional quarterback like johnny football

You can't call Cam a game manager because we've seen that we often need big monster games from him to win. What your seeing is that we finally have a defense that doesn't require him to account for four touchdowns for him to win

Every game Tom Brady wins isn't four touchdown games but nobody labels him a game manager. This past Sunday Cam actually should have had 3 touchdowns all to Steve Smith. The one Smith dropped he would have walked into the endzone if he held on because the only defender had already fell down. Then on the play that was challenged smitty just needed to stick his arm out and it's a touchdown.

The thing you see with this Panthers team is the lack of playmakers. I'm not talking about guys that can catch the ball. All receivers can catch it's the NFL. I'm talking about guys that can take a 0 yard or 5 and 10 yard passes 60 and 70 yards for scores. Those "elite" qbs have guys that can do that.

Exactly. Cam,has also put this team in plenty of positions to win. And now were finally seeing what the defense can become.

Of all the young quarterbacks out there. I want only Cam as my quarterback.

The knock on Cam hasn't been that he is a game manager or that he isn't smart enough or many of the things that people have said on here one way or the other,  The issue has been his consistency.  His athletic ability and strong arm isn't the issue.  His ability to run hasn't been the issue. The issue is whether he can be accurate week in and week out.  Can he make the throws that he has to make against tough defenders and good defenses. Can he drive the team in the last 2 minutes and carry the team on his back. The last 2 weeks he has been very accurate and very good.  Tonight is a big test on a big stage.  If he plays well tonight it will go a long way to convince folks he has turned the corner.  If he struggles or get outplayed by a rookie making his 3rd start, you can expect the criticism to continue.

It is really up to him to dispel the negative press.  He can do that tonight.

I don't think we lack big play guys. First of all our offense isn't predicated on short crossing routes or screens with the whole emphasis on YAC.  That would be the WCO.  Our offense is predicated on intermediate and deep routes moving the ball vertically instead of horizontally.  The problem has been the offensive line holding up to give Cam time for the routes to develop.  We do throw more dumpoffs due to necessity not desire.  Still Cam is averaging 7.8 yards per attempt which is very similar to what he did the last 2 years.  As far as guys making big catches both Ginn and LaFell have had deep touchdown catches.  The balls were just intermediate or deep routes not short ones.

Steve and Olsen both have dropped sure TDs this year and Cam has overthrown a few.  That happens.  Still I feel good about this group and hope we have some big plays tonight although if Tampa plays a cover 2, we will likely have to settle for a number of underneath throws. We will have to see.

That is the thing.  I have wanted a Jim Johnson defense for a decade and while this one doesn't blitz as much or take as many chances, it is solid and should be for the foreseeable future. I fear that we will make wholesale changes and end up going backwards instead of forwards.  This team is hitting it's stride at the right time of the year instead of waiting until December.

agree on the JJ D but glad McDermott is a little more cautious with his playcalling.  That front 4 obviously helps with that.  Good thing is we have a lot of season left after hitting 3-3 somewhat early.  I can only hope it carries on in a positive direction.

We have plenty of ex pro bowlers and several guys that could make the probowl this year.

I'm not buying this we don't have the talent crap.

Did we have 6 players good enough to make the Pro Bowl on the 2010 team though? That was the apples to apples comparison you were trying to make.

No. The question is do we have enough talent for our coach to get to the playoffs.

I guess the Seahawks, Redskins 49ers, Colts Vikings and Bengals (and this year the Chiefs) were just lucky to have a bunch of talent sitting there for their new coach and/or QB to go to the playoffs while we do not.

Got it.
