munnerlyn stats that may (or may not) surprise you

Everyone is saying they hate him playing outside, but guess the only time he has played outside!? The past two years, in which he has THREE pick-6's and has allowed only ONE touchdown.

That's simply untrue.  I believe it was his second year, the year Marshall was released, he was starting outside opposite Gamble and he was the worst CB in the league.  The past two years he's been playing predominantly in the nickle, where he's good, and that's why he has three pick-6s and allowed fewer TDs.

Great stat, but I'm not overally surprised.  Captain is generally playing the guy in the slot who's a lot of shot crossing routes, or routes into the flats.  If Capt gets a pick,  it's probably not far from the line of scrimmage, there aren't many people in front of him, and by the time anyone realizes he has the ball it's too late.  It's different for the outside corners, who will generally have an extra 20+ yards to run and several more people to make miss.

That being said, Captain is a premiere Nickel, but really doesn't need to be one of the starting 2.

He's been playing outside CB since last year. It started out with Gamble & Norman, Norman got benched & Gamble landed on IR, and Captain and later Thomas were starting outside for much of the year.

This year, it has again been Captain starting outside in every game I believe. He may move into the nickel in certain formations, but he's always on the field, even in 2 CB sets.

    • It shows how short the actual span of a NFL career actually is.  We get caught up with the few guys that play until 40-years old, but that's an extraordinary tiny fraction of the League.  What you may or may not have intentionally done there is show how we quickly move off guys like that but are stubbornly hanging onto Bryce.  His new running mate, Kenny Pickett, drafted just one year earlier is already on his 4th or 5th team.  Kenny isn't horrible, but he's not good enough to be a franchise QB.  Some franchises get it, chalk it up as a miss and move on.  Others double down on trying to make things work until the relationship completely deteriorates. *cough* Dolphins and Cardinals *cough*
    • Winner of 7 vs 8 seed game gets 7th seed. Loser of that game plays against winner of 9 vs 10 seed game. Winner of that game (loser of 7 vs 8 against winner of 9 vs 10) gets 8th seed. So in reality if you make it to the 7 vs 8 game, it’s win and in for your team. Lose that game and you get another shot at getting in. If you have to play the 9 vs 10 game, lose once you are gone. Win the first game as a 9 vs 10 competitor and you still have to win again to get in.
    • DJ Chark, Hayden Hurst, and Bradley Bozeman all started for the Carolina Panthers during Bryce Young’s rookie season. All 3 have announced retirement after two years.  Scott Fitterer was that bad.   And his #1 receiver Thielen also just retired
