He can't be else Rivera would have been out too...

JR has his hand in this stuff.

We really, really need new scouts. It's pretty obvious.

Gettleman said when he was first hired that he didn't wanna come in like a bulldozer, shove everyone out the door and load the place with his own guys. And so he didn't.

But a year later...who knows?

Since he's had a chance to see the operation in action, and specifically see who can do their job well and who can't, I won't be surprised if this offseason holds some front office changes in store.

He's definitely not afraid to get rid of established players. No reason the scouts should feel safe either.

That was part of the evidence I cited in my "Trouble with Rudys" post.

I believe Rivera lobbied for those guys based on his soft spot for less talented guys who 'try harder'.

This actually seems very likely. Especially when you consider the fact that Fua is still here, after being cut once already.

If Gettleman was given Rivera without a say in the matter, I just find it doubtful that he was given much of a choice in the scouting staff.

To be fair, Amini was playing very well this year right?

yep. after the first couple games he looked good and was grading out pretty well, iirc.

maybe we picked the wrong guy, but who we got wasn't a humongous drop off. it's a shame that he got hurt.

Yeah that's what I mean... JR called all those shots.  He didn't want to pay Rivera and another coach and he didn't want to fire the scouting staff for whatever reasons, possibly similar $$$ reasons...

Was this completely true or was he glossing over the fact that JR (probably) strongly suggested that's what he do?

Yep. If we want to talk about hiring based on money reasons, we can look no further than our current staff. Can't expect playoffs when you set yourself up for failure from the get go. Even worse when you are wasting pivotal early years with a talent like Cam Newton.

Stings, but no tears here. Not for 2012 anyway. Matt Kalil was the "can't miss" OT that year and is having an awful sophomore year. In fact the two players we would have given our left *** for in that draft (Claiborne and Kalil) have both sucked hind ***. We got Luke and Amini, not bad. Amini can still be a player, even a player worthy of a high second rounder.

Not trying to hate on Amini at all here, just pointing out that the "logical" pick at the time was Glenn....and we went Amini.

I think that Amini can play, but if Glenn could hold down the L, and let Gross go back to the R, we might be onto something this season.

Haven't I read somewhere the Panthers have one of the smallest scouting staffs in the league and really doesn't even pay any attention to the west coast, for the most part?

We learned our lesson with USC receivers and just decided to write off anyone associated with that "other" ocean.

Ok, stew and kalil but whatevs.
