Josh Gordon News

I haven't smoked since my daughter was born and because my job does randoms. But I don't consider weed to be a drug, it's a fuging plant straight from the earth. It's not as bad as alcohol or cigarettes but gets a bad rap because a money controlling government can't figure out how to take its share of revenue it generates. Marijuana has never given anyone cancer and actually serves as a cure for a lot of diseases. Tobacco helped build this country and you can puff until your lungs collapse and kill everyone around you, but a guy smokes a little weed and he's a bad guy. So excuse my stoner logic. Pick up a psychology book and read up on weed vs some of the legal stuff. Id much rather my guy smoke weed vs some of that other poo that doesn't get flagged in a drug test.

And here's the mistake I see made time and again...

The virtues of weed, whatever you perceive them to be, are irrelevant to the discussion.

The League rules are against it. They test for it, and they test more frequently when you're a known user. And if you're caught using, you get suspended.

Nobody in the League office asks you how you feel about weed. Nobody asks you to give your defense of weed. The only question is "did you use it or not" and if the answer is 'yes' then their answer is "see ya".

They just don't care what you think.

When you have a guy who's so devoted to weed that he's willing to risk suspension, then at heart you have a bad teammate. He's willing to risk not being there when you need him, which means he's selfish, which means you can't trust him.

I don't want that guy on my team because there's a pretty strong chance he's gonna let me down, maybe at a crucial point in time.

Congrats on giving up weed since having a daughter, but realize that some of these guys are so devoted to the plant that they put it above family, friends, career and teammates.

Gordon has demonstrated, more than once, that he can be one of those guys.

That's why you avoid him.

^^^ Gordon is gonna cost a 2nd

Yeah my bad, don't know how that slipped my mind.

I just don't see how we could afford Nicks. Plus I think he is overrated by this board. Too many free agents and not enough cap space to be throwing a good portion of that space at one player.

Wow there is a lot going on in this thread.

First, Mr. Scot, when you listed chances the Panthers have taken (Shockey, keeping Smith around, etc) you kind of backed up others' point that we should take a risk on someone like this with a lot of talent.   We are all hypocrites if we are happy Steve Smith is on our team (and let's be honest, he's basically a thug, but I love him nonetheless lol) but yet we throw out "he's a risk" comments.  What about Greg Hardy?  He was probably going to go 1st or 2nd round till his issues came around but we took a chance and now we're trying to extend him and he's a top 10 pass rusher in the NFL.

Second, I do understand your point about him continuing to smoke.  I don't think weed is a big deal, and I don't think it should be, but, the NFL tests and will suspend you for violating it.  While it probably shouldn't be against the rules, it is, and I'd figure making millions would trump that.  So I'm mixed, but I can't just throw it out the window.  The NFL Is sometimes about taking risks.  Sometimes the bear gets you sometimes you get the bear, but if you don't dance with the bear in the first place you may never know and continue to watch others rise above you.

Third, some of you act like we draft WRs successfully and it makes more sense to draft a kid.  Not even mentioning that the NFL is a crap shoot and you never know what you're getting, let's look at the facts about the Panthers as a team.  We do NOT develop WRs.  Smith was a lucky draft choice and Moose was a decent WR.  That's the only two we have really had success with.  Smith was over a decade ago.   We have to take risks and that may mean bringing in a guy with talent despite personal issues, and trying to get him on the right path.

If we plan on drafting a WR next year, giving up a third probably isn't much more of a risk than drafting.

Josh Gordon also hasn't sent two teammates to the hospital/trainers tent because he didn't like what they had to say.

None of us know this kid, yet many are ready to accept he will never learn his lesson.  Why should we assume somewhere with a :Thomas Davis, Steve Smith, Greg Olsen, Jordan Gross, Cam Newton, DeAngelo Williams, Luke Kuechley as a leader in the locker room couldn't get this young man to see the bigger picture?

Football is a game of calculated risk. This kid can play football, has excelled in a similar system (designed by same person) and makes our WR corps MUCH better.   Again, I'd offer a third and not even blink.

(Would rather have OLine help in the big picture but that is irrelevant.)

@IBNincarcerated: **BREAKING NFL NEWS**Source: 2nd team makes offer for #Browns Josh Gordon ' #IBN has *Confirmed* SF 49ERS have made a legit offer.

The 49ers have an extra 2nd and 3rd round pick in this years draft I believe. Unless someone offers a first, I imagine it would be pretty hard to out bid the Niners if they want Gordon.

How many people have ever died from smoking weed?

I am not going to argue with you about whether pot should be legal.  There are many valid reasons that it should.

However, your statement that is should not be considered a drug "because it is a plant that grows from the ground" is ridiculous.

The debate over Gordon is not about whether weed should be legal.  It is about someone who is paid a ton of money....and is so stupid that they would sacrifice it all to get high.  That, my friend, is an idiot.

And to your statement that half the players in the NFL smoke....if most are smart enough to not get busted, it must be pretty easy to do so.  That means that Gordon is an even bigger idiot, as he is not even smart enough to hide it.

There are too many very good WR's in this upcoming draft to spend a 2-3 round pick on this idiot.

Big difference between Smitty and this guy... Smitty had some "behavior" problems but was never in trouble with the law, that's a whole different can of worms.

Incorrect.  Steve Smith was arrested and charged with assault in 2002 after punching a team mate Anthony Bright.

We have nothing to offer.....DG will not give up a early draft pick...Browns just traded a RB so they obviously think that they don't need one this year and we have money issues with contracts coming due.All a pipe dream ......isn't gonna happen.
