Peyton Manning very may well be the best QB of all time if he had to deal with Meeks D for all those years, and still put up 12 win seasons year after year.

Meeks has had two defenses that were better in PA than any D under Fox.

That said, I don't think I would have chosen him with Bates/Williams out there.

As has been stated, it doesn't much matter who the DC is regarding the basic scheme. That will be what Fox wants, and will be the same as the one Del Rio and Trgovac ran. It's also one that can be very, very effective and one which fits our personnel pretty well.

What will distinguish Meeks from Trgo and Del Rio is how well he teaches fundamentals and the execution of the scheme, and how well he calls plays during the game. So far the fundamentals and execution have been terrible, far worse than with either of his two predecessors.

But fundamentals are called that for a reason, and they should reappear as players get more comfortable with changes in the execution. The trouble is, time is running out to get the execution down before it starts counting.

As for play calling, he gets a big "meh" so far. Granted, all we've seen is the Baltimore game to judge that, but if I was a DC I would rather claim unemployment than put that abortion of an effort on my resume.

So far Meeks looks like the worst DC we've had so far under Fox, but there's still time. Fox hired him for a reason, maybe we just haven't seen it yet.

The guys could at least tackle like they're professional football players. No defense will be effective otherwise, I don't care who the coach is.

I'll make judgements about scheme and coaching ability when we have all of our starters back. Until then, I want to criticize what appears to be a lack of fire and attitude on defense. Hard play and attitude is not coached, but is a reflection of a coach. This is what worries me most during this preseason.

Playcalling isn't something to judge thus far imo.

However why can't we tackle? Surely Meeks hasn't told them to stop wrapping up and to always strip the ball rather than let the second guy do it.
