RIP Bum

I remember that before the start of football one season.  The Ford Farm Dealer came up with the "Luv Ya Blue" medium farm tractor.  (Ford tractors were always blue & white anyway.)

Anyway, the dealer got a call during the preseason from a man who wanted to buy one of the "Luv Ya Blue" tractors.  The dealer asked him, how big his farm was.  He pointed out that this was a medium tractor.  The guy who wanted was buying one replied.  "Farm?  I don't own a farm.  I live here in Houston."  The guy still bought the tractor.

That's how much the Oiler fans were crazy about the team and Bum.

RIP Bum.

I really enjoyed watching his Oiler teams back in the day.

WR Billy "White Shoes" Johnson, QB Dan Pastorini, WR Haywood "Freakwood" Jeffries, CB Cris Dishman, LB Robert "Dr. Doom" Brazile, S Ken Houston, Hall of Fame DE Elvin Bethea (105 career sacks), and of course Warren Moon and Earl Campbell.

If there was one thing I always remembered about those Oiler teams, those players loved playing for Bum Phillips. Earl Campbell and he were as close as I've ever seen a player and coach in the NFL.

    • I just switched to prime video with fanduel south. Will I be able to watch the Canes playoff games still?
    • I mean, you can use that "logic," but the problem is that most practice squad players, backups or average guys don't put the play on film that Wharton did when given their opportunities.  Perhaps you'll end up right, but I don't think that just because a guy has been in a rotation makes him inherently less productive because he gets more snaps. I will say that the KC fans I've seen on social media loved him, and considered him their second best DT,  regardless of his "rotational" status, and generally considered him a dawg, so I'm going to give him the benefit of doubt until he shows otherwise.
    • Did I miss something?  The people we have developing players now are not the ones we've had in the past so I don't know what the heck people are talking about when they say we are not good at developing players right now.  We only have one year to go on.  Canales likes young players or players who are on an upward trajectory, especially in FA this year.  Past QB's and what he's done with Bryce are good examples. Tershawn Wharton - 26 Tre'von Moehrig - 25 Pat Jones II - 26 Bobby Brown III - 24 Michael Jackson - 28 Jaycee Horn - 25 Tommy Tremble - 24 We missed on Milton Williams but he's 26. Everyone else we picked up are on 1 year deals.  The Panthers new front office and Canales absolutely scream developmental team. Pick 8 (stay) Tier 1 Elite - Abdul Carter, Travis Hunter and Mason Graham Tier 2 Elite - Jalon Walker, Mykel Williams, Will Johnson Trade down: There are quite a few really good players that fit us at Edge, DT, S and WR mid to late 1st and high 2nd.  Some combos that would be possible that I really like.  Imagine getting 2 of these guys by trading down. Stark, Pierce Jr, Golden, Scourton, Grant, Emmanwori, Ezeiruaku, Umanmielen, Deone Walker, Harmon and this is just off the top of my head.
