Misleading stills are misleading. It's likely that since it was a three man front, Bell's assignment was to prevent him from coming outside. Knowing that Scott would be on the inside to prevent any cut back. The defensive end is not by necessity always the sole assignment of the tackle in protection. This is one of those instances. Bell gave him to Scott because he changed lanes and went inside. And what you see Bell doing in that still shot where it looks like he's doing nothing is watching the pocket now that he doesn't have a man to block and trying to see if Cam is going to extend the play with his feet. Since Cam got rid of the ball he didn't have to make an additional block.

The same thing happened on the other side of the line. LG didn't have an assignment in the traditional sense and blocked down on Kalil's man when it looked like there was trouble. When the defense only sends 4 and you have 6 blockers with 5 on the line and 1 in the backfield, somebody is going to be without a hat on somebody. It's numbers not blown assignments. How you defend a three man front is that everybody has a lane. If a pass rusher comes into your lane, he's your man. Bell's lane was directly in front of him and when the pass rusher crossed into the lane of the RG, Bell let him have him. There could have just as easily been a delayed rush on the right side of the line or a stunt that would have required them both to have a block.

NO, stop making excuses for Bell and just be glad we got away with it.

Robison was lined up on Bells outside shoulder, 96 was Bells man, no ifs ands or buts. If the CB was going to blitz like someone else suggested then its Olsens responsibility to pick that up and leave Tolbert to pick up Allen, rather than him just chipping and going out in a pass route.

Bell didn't "pass" him off, he got beat by a great swim move to the inside, luckily Scott wasn't occupied as the LB dropped out and he could help out, even if he just stalled 96 a tad it was enough to get the pass off.

That play was a thing of beauty. cam executed it to perfection. Moving on the pocket...going through his reads...great throw.

We need more of that and we are a very hard team to beat.

Really was nice footwork by Cam. I know people want to slam Cam for holding the ball too long and there are some concerns there but one thing you have to give him credit for is that he stands tall in the pocket when everything looks like its falling all around him. He is not a fraidy cat, that's for sure.
