Yes, i saw this live, in fact i almost missed the rest of the play, cause i look at trench play most games. Great block.

I'm working on a mini highlight reel for the Vikings game since I'm bored...

Did anybody else miss this Olsen block during the live game?

Also great pocket awareness from Cam.

Looking at the first still, it almost looks like the slot corner is faking a blitz. If that is the case, the corner will be Bell's man since both Tolbert and Olsen are going to the other side, leaving the DE for Scott after a shove. That would explain Bell shooting to the outside like that, but tough to say withiut watching the entire play again.

I think this is just an example that shows Bell is scared of making mistakes. Whether the play originally called for it, or a pick up by Kalil, the entire O-line slid their protection to the right. That's why Tolbert and Olsen ended up on Allen, and Gross on a DT. A more experienced RT would have recognized no threat and slid back inside to help protection, but also should have at least chipped the DE first to help Scott

Rodeo has a point. Dude did nothing to help Scott, who was getting beat like this dead horse, despite his man dropping back. Yeah yeah delayed stunt blah blah blah. He should have helped Scott out. This isnt even the first time ive seen Bell do this. He does it several times a game on dropbacks and twist stunts.

Cam also about tripped on Olsen's leg.  Great pick up by Greg.  Great pocket presence by Cammy Cam.  Great downfield block by Ginn [who also set up that underneath route because of his speed].  Just a great play overall that ended up in 6 points.

As for Bell, he's doing the 1-2 step it looks like.  Count it.

Really, really like what Cam was doing on that play.

He felt the pressure...stepped up about a half a step and then shitfted right to get a cleaner pocket to step into.

That was Brady, Breese, and Manning esque. Little things like that are huge for a QB.

Well done Mr Newton.

Not to mention Rivera says LaFell was the 3rd read on that play.

Misleading stills are misleading. It's likely that since it was a three man front, Bell's assignment was to prevent him from coming outside. Knowing that Scott would be on the inside to prevent any cut back. The defensive end is not by necessity always the sole assignment of the tackle in protection. This is one of those instances. Bell gave him to Scott because he changed lanes and went inside. And what you see Bell doing in that still shot where it looks like he's doing nothing is watching the pocket now that he doesn't have a man to block and trying to see if Cam is going to extend the play with his feet. Since Cam got rid of the ball he didn't have to make an additional block.

The same thing happened on the other side of the line. LG didn't have an assignment in the traditional sense and blocked down on Kalil's man when it looked like there was trouble. When the defense only sends 4 and you have 6 blockers with 5 on the line and 1 in the backfield, somebody is going to be without a hat on somebody. It's numbers not blown assignments. How you defend a three man front is that everybody has a lane. If a pass rusher comes into your lane, he's your man. Bell's lane was directly in front of him and when the pass rusher crossed into the lane of the RG, Bell let him have him. There could have just as easily been a delayed rush on the right side of the line or a stunt that would have required them both to have a block.
