We are a RT and RG away from being a contender. Still dont understand how the o-line was ignored in the off-season. I know we have had injuries but you have to have depth at the o-line to be able to compete. The games we have lost are due to pressure from good defensive lines. Hopefully Riveria and company have finally realized this and can keep running plays that focus on our strengths and not our weakness. We will find out Sunday.

B. Bell was doing his assignment.  That was not his man.  Stop putting blame where it doesn't belong, he has not been half as bad as you casual fans think he is.

So when his man drops back into coverage, Bell's assignment is to just stand there?

 

There weren't any pass rushers to block. The pass rush came on overload on the other side of the line, which is why Greg had to pick it up. The last thing you want to do in that situation if you're Bell is work back towards the QB and crowd his pocket with your big goofy face. The best play he could make there was stay in his lane. What is he going to do, get downfield and block? If the play broke down and Cam had to scramble to his side of the line he would have had to block back to keep Cam clean. Blocking is about assignments until the play breaks down and THAT is when you just put a helmet on anybody you see. If you take somebody else's man simply because you don't SEE a blitzer coming, you leave room for confusion. It's not a hard concept. Stay within your game and if the play gets extended, be there to help keep the pocket.

96 is Robison the DE. Bell overplays the outside and gets beat by a 96 swim move on the inside and leaves Scott to try and clean up the mess.

Robison and Allen are 2 quality ends. It really was a good job overall to only give up the 1 sack all game. Allen tormented us 2 years ago.

 

And as for Olsen, that was a great pickup, Tolbert with a wee chip too.

 

Protect Cam and we can win. Can't be giving up 6-7 sacks a game. Its killing Eli in NY.

DE 96 instantly blows up Bell who gives a pathetic attempt at blocking him

 

 

 

After he blows up Bell, Bell watches him do the same to Scott.

All there was in front of Bell was miles of green grass. And he wasn't even watching for more rushers, he was mostly watching his man run free at Cam.

 

 

 

 

Bell got beat by his man in less than half a second, and had absolutely no idea what to do after that.

I also think in fairness to Scott, he got blown by so easily because he wasn't expecting it, on account of it being Bell's man. He started the play looking at DT 93, and quickly switched to DE 96 after Bell got beat. If he didn't do that, the play would have been a disaster.
