Ideal 1st Round Pick for Carolina [UPDATED]

Something that concerns me with Watkins coming to Carolina is how he and Cam would mesh. Watkins is more of a ground receiver and has rarely had to display any aerial talent. I'm not saying he can't do it, I'm just saying I've never seen it. Cam shows inaccuracy on occasion, and I think we really need a receiver who can use their aerial prowess to snare balls that tend Cam tends to sail.

Bored at 6:00am on a Saturday. Not that impressive at first glance. But he's a 6' tall high school player dunking with relative ease from a standing vertical. No running momentum at all. And it looked like he barely jumped. I'd say this kid probably has pretty good ups right now.

BTW, please don't read the comments. Really not worth the time - trust me.

I'll take 708 yards and 3 TDs as "MIA". The guy broke out his freshmen year and was Clemon's only threat, so he got a ton of passes his way. Last year Hopkins arrived on the scene and took alot of his touches away. This doesn't mean that Watkins wasn't getting open, it just meant there were 2 threats on the field. It's obvious now that Watkins can still dominate, considering his biggest game of the year so far was against Georgia.

Clemsons only threat? How about that other guy that went in the first round last year that everyone was drooling over?

Id take Jake Mathews today. Maybe with the OT's drafted highly this year not quite performing as expected per PFF, he falls into our lap Star style.

Lee would likely be my preferred WR. Is Evans draft elligable, isnt he a Soph.

Evans is a redshirt soph so he can declare.

Mike Evans reminds me of Vincent Jackson.

For some reason I have a hard time comparing Sammy Watkiks to anyone. Can someone help me out? Size wise maybe Justin Blackmon? Speed like Julio? I haven't watched him much.

he reminds me of Julio, just not as big.6'2 220 compared to 6'1 205. both have break away speed, and can turn a 7 yard slant into a 70 yard TD. NFL.com weakness  for  Julio is what some have said about Sammy

Will drop the routine pass on occasion and body catches at times. Was able to consistently separate in college but still developing as a route-runner. Needs to do a better job setting up defenders and getting out of breaks. Willing to go over the middle but needs to show more consistency catching in traffic.

Ok fellas lets shut down the draft talk at least until we are clearly out of it, could be less than 7 days from now.

why? i(and some) talk draft 365 days, and its the middle of the week. panthers news is slow.

Watkins is nothing like Julio Jones. One of Julio's best attributes is going up and getting the ball at its highest point. Sammy doesn't do that. He also has a bad case of the dropsies.

And before anyone calls me a "hater", I was a BIG fan of DeAndre Hopkins and really wanted him to be a Panther.

again those dropsies was also something that Julio had, and they do have the same explosive vertical game. Sammy has worked on attacking the football, and this has been seen this year. he now go up and gets it rather then waiting like he did in previous years. if you watch the game tonite, i want everyone to pay attention to my sleeper WR Rashad Greene for FSU.

Not saying either of those things.

But for you to say that tall receivers are going the way of the dodo is pretty dumb.

In a Coryell offense, I prefer tall WR's.

Except it is. Taller athletic players at the high school and collegiate levels are being asked to play positions that demand more athleticism than they ever have before. This is being done because height at the WR position is a vastly overrated prospect that isn't needed as much as it is coveted at the aforementioned positions. Why is it overrated? Because "jump balls" have almost nothing to do with height. Smith has been one of the best jump ball wideouts in the game for years.

The only thin that's dumb is ignoring a trend that is happening right before your eyes.
