Ideal 1st Round Pick for Carolina [UPDATED]

If there is any way the Panthers are in a position to get Watkins, they should go ALL IN. That kid is special, and has been since the first day he stepped on an NCAA field. Though it may take 2 picks for us to get him.

If we can't deal for Watkins, then improving the OL is the quickest way to help the offense. But, unlike others, I'd prefer FA veteran OL rather than WRs. Ideally a guy that's still under 28, but has shown he's an above average talent.

Something that concerns me with Watkins coming to Carolina is how he and Cam would mesh. Watkins is more of a ground receiver and has rarely had to display any aerial talent. I'm not saying he can't do it, I'm just saying I've never seen it. Cam shows inaccuracy on occasion, and I think we really need a receiver who can use their aerial prowess to snare balls that tend Cam tends to sail.

Sammy doesn't strike me as DG pick.

If a poster the day before the draft said we would go DT, DT, projected G,  LB RB....the entire board would have spent the remainder of day calling the OP the biggest poo head they world had ever known.

DG IMO is still wildcard.   The NY "model" from when he was there, like his first draft here, sometimes ignores glaring holes.... for big draft day head scratchers.

we obviously don't really know what is draft style is like especially after investing in the NY model d-line. I think he fell in love with KK as a player and as a person.

I can't see him passing up on a big playmaker for Cam though unless a stud Olineman is there. Like he said "you need a franchise qb, which we have, td scorers and hog mollies."

So what you're saying is that youre under the impression that a vertical offense is predicated exclusively on the 9 route? Or are you saying that what separates guys like Green or Johnson from the rest of the league's wideouts is an inch or two they may have on other wideouts?

lol.

Not saying either of those things.

But for you to say that tall receivers are going the way of the dodo is pretty dumb.

In a Coryell offense, I prefer tall WR's.

Boyd is a very accurate QB, so that may be the reason he hasn't had to display that side of his athleticism yet. The combine will let us know what kind of vertical he's working with. And I don't think anyone will be disappointed.

Though, I think the new Cam rarely sails passes anymore. He's gotten very accurate as of late.

Watkins and an emerging Ginn on the outside is a sh** ton of speed!!! Would likely be the fastest tandem the league has ever seen. Which side does the safety cheat to? Two safeties bailing deep at the snap? Meet Smitty and Olsen. The middle of the field is suddenly WIDE open.

Watkins may not be around when we pick.

Another guy who I've been keeping tabs on this season is Mike Evans.

I could honestly see us picking anywhere from 5 through 19. Someone mentioned Eric Ebron in another thread, but drafting a TE would be a luxury pick and we have bigger holes to fill.

Cam still has a tendency to throw the ball wide or high, especially on short throws. He has improved the last few games though.

I do admit that the idea of having two speedsters on the outside is intriguing. Turning Smitty into a slot guy is clearly ideal.

End of the day, I still think a tall WR that can play the ball well will help us tremendously in the red zone.

Since Newton has arrived....hasn't between the 20's been a bigger issue than redzone.  RR's Panthers are best redzone Panthers in team history.

I see a lot of people saying they believe Gross will retire. Do you believe Gross will retire if we make playoffs but not go to Super Bowl? I wouldn't. Id come back for another year. Especially if Getts handles draft/FA well.

I don't think Gross would retire on his own at the end of this season. He's a team guy who said his career would end here, a could see a very team friendly deal keeping him here for the next couple years.

Even if you draft OT you can move Gross to RT and improve that side of the OL.
