QB seeks WR for friendship, touchdowns

This is why we need to spend a 1st rounder on a WR, we need someone like Sammy Watkins that can develop that relationship with Cam, because it's so important.  Look at the list of recent pairings you posted

 Tom Brady and Wes Welker

- Jay Cutler and Brandon Marshall

- Ben Roethlisberger and Hines Ward - Fell apart and out of playoff contention without him

- Carson Palmer and Chad Johnson -  Fell apart and out of playoff contention without him

- Matt Stafford and Calvin Johnson

- Matt Schaub and Andre Johnson

- Philip Rivers and Vincent Jackson-  Fell apart and out of playoff contention without him

- Drew Brees and Marques Colston

Rivers and Keenan Allen, though, seem to be forging a new friendship. Playoffs looks to be in their future.  Most certainly, touchdowns.

Historically speaking, when you think of a lot of great quarterbacks, you also think of receivers associated with them. Truth be told, some quarterbacks have gone from good/very good to great primarily because the team found them their 'partner in crime', that receiver with whom they share a chemistry so strong it borders on ESP.

Some more recent pairings:

And for a fella by the name of Jake Delhomme, there was this guy named Stevonne Smith. At the moment, those two still would be considered the most prolific passing combo in Panthers team history.

So here's the question...

Is Steve Smith also 'that guy' for Cam Newton, or is Newton still waiting for his 'partner in crime'?

Given the difference in age and the vast gulf between where they are on their career paths, can Smith really be the guy that, over the long term, makes fans cheer and defenses fear?

And if the answer to that is 'no', then who might that guy be? Where do we find him?

I'm not a GM but I say the best odds are we look to draft  WR named "Johnson"

Although that sounds more like a Craigslist ad than the classy match dot com you kind of referred to
