QB seeks WR for friendship, touchdowns

Right now if Cam has that go-to guy, it's probably Greg Olsen.  Cam is still only 24 and needs a WR to grow with for the rest of his career. With Brandon LaFell and Ted Ginn FA's this offseason, Steve Smith will be 35....you can GUARANTEE the Panthers will be spending a 1st and/or 2nd round pick on a WR.

our T situation.....means no such guarantee should be made.

How bad has Gross really been?

wasn't a Gross diss

his contract restructure pretty much means this is his farewell season IMO.  Odds I think are small he plays again by his choice.  I think his new found hobby also shows he is looking ahead.  Gross is still good.  He also doesn't seem like the type guy who plays too long....which I think is why he made that deal and is about ready.

I said it before and caught a lot of heat....I think a new HC greatly reduces the odds 89 and 69 are in Panther uniforms next year.  I think odds increase 89 wears a different uniform and 69's odds which are high of retirement with RR then skyrocket.

He's not been bad, but realistically he isn't going to be around all that much longer (hell, this might even be his last season).  Also, Bell looks like he might be the fuging worst in the league at times.

Wharton is no spring chicken himself, Amini is going to be coming back off a serious injury despite us still not being completely sure about him yet, and we have no clue what we have in Kugbila.  Not to mention we have zero depth.

Offensive line being a huge need right now is a bit of an understatement.  All we need is for Gross or Kalil to go down and we are literally fuged.

Yea with Jordan Gross also 35 this offseason...and Gettleman's "hog molly" approach, you might see them double down at OL and sign a big time FA WR (Hakeem Nicks???)

So who knows.  Either way, on offense those are the two most glaring areas of need and after two consecutive drafts of taking a defensive player in round 1, I see them going offense and taking the best WR or OL available.

my preference is a WR in the 1st, OL in 2nd.....and make a move in FA for a legit vet T.  We don't want Kalil being the only decent vet .

But my general belief is DG is a true dinosaur...and they often IMO hate WRs early.

1st round WR's have a tendency to be a bust more often than not...so it's understandable.  DG was a part of the Giants staff that took Nicks in the first round though.  I went back and looked at all the drafts since 1999.  Unless you're drafting a WR in the top 6 and you get a guy like Calvin Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald, AJ Green, Tory Holt, Andre Johnson, Julio Jones, hell even Justin Blackmon...all bets are off.  Notable exceptions are guys like Charles Rogers, Peter Warrick, and to an extent, Braylon Edwards (although he put up a couple nice seasons).  But more often than not if you draft a WR in the top 6, he's going to be a stud.  After that, the bust rate skyrockets.

And what's the cap hit for a guy turning 31 in January?

4 million more than our very own Steve Smith...who will be 35, and is not particularly suited for this offense and Cam.

Don't sign either DWill or Stew and it's an easy deal, especially if you lower SS's contract or cut him.

I think Gettleman will focus on the O-line in the next draft. Look for Lafell and now Ginn to continue to improve.

I would like to see Smitty in the slot and move Ginn as the #1 WR. Much like the young Smitty, he is fast and has a chip on his shoulder to show he's not just a returner. If this dosen't work, I see Gettleman looking for a young vet like Nicks to replace either Hixon or a WR on the team not stepping up. He knows Cam needs a strong O-line and will use our top picks there.
