Gil Brandt: Hakeem Nicks to Panthers Make Sense

Well Giants would be dumb not to shop him around. They need draft picks and a different culture in that lockerroom and new guys will do that. Why would the Browns make a move? I would think they are probably done making huge moves till next draft. I don't think 49er's would take him either because they have Crabtree coming back and Boldin's there. Patriots I don't see either because although Amendola is fragile and injury prone - Nicks is as well (perhaps not nearly as fragile, but still injury prone). Why the heck would the Pats want him?

I know we probably aren't going to make a move for Nicks. But, can't understand the teams like 49ers and Pats being thrown into the rumors. Maybe I don't know nearly as much as some of these NFL analysts, but I don't see the reasoning behind those two teams wanting him.

Your Rams NFL prediction (LOL) has a lot more relevance to the conversation than ACC football does. I'll at least you credit for not denying that you said it.

Yes or No: Would Hakeem Nicks help out the Panthers this season?

My Rams prediction was in the "Make an outlandish prediction" thread, you doofus.

And that's not a good question at all. There are a lot of players that would make our team better than it is but make it worse overall due to the cost of acquiring them and the salary cap room they would take up.

The question is "Is Nicks the best use of our Draft Picks (or players) and cap space?" I'd say no, even if he is theoretically available.

If we want a quick fix for less, go for somebody like Miles Austin. If we want to spend a higher draft pick on somebody with a big future in front of them with a much smaller contract, let's go for Josh Gordon.

Personally, I don't see why we don't wait for the draft.

the naysayers seem to be more worried about next year, for some reason.

It's because the Panthers' fan base is so beat down since the Arizona playoff game that it's just been cultivated in us to start saying "NEXT YEAR" after week 5. poo's gotta change.

I agree w/ Mr.Scott and The Red that there are bigger holes on this team than WR - but the WR position here has been neglected for years. Bad draft picks have a lot to do with that. I'm still not sold on LaFell as a bonafide #2 WR and neither should anyone else.

yea i'm surprised more people aren't tired of looking forward to or worrying about (the)next year.

i agree the o line is more of an impedance than wr's, but again, a playmaker of his caliber would make this offense so much more dangerous.  i dont care about next year, hell the Ravens traded their top wr after winning the SB for a measly 7th rounder.  i'd take that trade, Stewart(who may be cut next year anyway) for a one year rental of Nicks for a Super Bowl run.  But then you have some guys who believe he isnt good so can't really help those guys.

I don't remember what thread it was in and frankly I don't care. You are the "doofus" who said it. You're backpedaling faster than Josh Thomas.

You're right. There's a ton of players that would make our team better. Demaryius Thomas. Joe Haden. DBrickshaw Ferguson. But they aren't available. Hakeem Nicks potentially is. I have no idea on earth what the Giants would take for him, but it is in our best interest to inquire any opportunity that can help our team. A #2 WR who has proven he can make plays and score is something this team has only had once in the history of the franchise. And people wonder why we have only made the playoffs four times!!!

You're probably the same type of Panthers' fan that wants Cam to fail here. It helps you sleep at night when you are able to "label" or "judge" Panthers fans here who criticize Cam after a rough outing.

Oh wait... No... It all makes sense now! Lets give Beason away for peanuts and then trade away a young RB for Nicks, when by all accounts it appears that LaFell has cemented the same role on our team as Nicks would give us.

Oh but wait, Nicks is way better than LaFail TCF....and has been doing it for longer. And Stewart hasn't seen the field in like 4 years... So we should just trade Stew for another "late round pick" because at least we'd get something for him and offload his horrible contract and save tons of money!

TCF you're such a moron! Nicks is so awesome, plus he's from Carolina!!! Just look at his production this year... Nicks is totally worth trading Stewart for...GOSH!

Am I doing it right?

I'm not saying this is going to happen, in fact, I know it's not

but are you really implying LaFell is better than Nicks

Miles Austin is hurt and how do you know he is available?

Josh Gordon is a failed drug test away from being suspended indefinitely by the NFL. I'm sure Mr. Richardson would be thrilled to bring a player like that into this fragile environment.

anybody, i mean anybody but a carolina guy.  and to mention Miles Always Hurt Austin over Nicks, when a recent argument was that Nicks is injury prone.  all this after saying anyone who thinks Nicks is good doesn't know football.

Fact of the matter, I live here in NYC so i get tons of Giants news, the Giants value Nicks more than Cruz.  That was last offseason, they may have changed their minds a little on his current value.

pfff you got owned and that's what you resorted to?

Resulting to insults! The hard headed way of waving the white flag!

With that being said, anyone here who doesn't think Nicks would help this team immediately needs to get over your petty UNC hate and pull your head from your ass.

Rams have some pretty good cornerbacks and we're going to need LaFell and Ginn to step up on Sunday. Confident they can do it?
