Our 27th ranked pass offense comes down to not enough playmakers

We may jump from 27th to top 10 over the next 3 weeks of play.  It's a marathon, not a sprint.

I would hope so, but it still doesn't change my view at all. We know what we have, and, to be honest, we've known all along.

In all seriousness, we may know what we have right now, and that talent level is debatable.  The question is, what are we going to have next year?  Smith is the only signed receiver we have.

Thats fine, grabbing playmakers come first. Really in this case, it's been last

Gotta keep the biggest playmaker safe able to make plays.....which really haven't made a priority.  If we lose Gross we it appears we will.....our OL will be a wreck.

Regardless of these posts

1st pick this year should be WR. Watch we ONCE AGAIN don't do it and every Panther fan won't have a problem with it

Honestly, I was hoping for Hopkins this year.  I guess Star was too big a need so we took him.

OT is going to be major going forward so we have to make the judgement for who is more worth the pick?  Franchise OT or future #1 WR

IMO, the offense is built to attack. We throw multiple looks, multiple options, multiple weapons at a Defense every week. I love the Offense this year. Fewest 3 & outs in the league kinda good. Fewer possessions equal fewer yards. Skews our standing in those type ratings.

We are also down in those splash plays as well this year. That has some weight in the matter. I blame this one on the O-line not giving Cam the trust he needs to wait on those longer patterns. Cam is taking the dump off and shorter routes, because he has too. Smart, just frustrating.

Although we are killing it in TOP, our YPG is rather low? You would think the more time you have the ball, the more yards you would have? We run the ball, that does have a normal impact. It is all those shorter passes holding Cam back. Someone pointed out his YPP is almost 2 yards less this year. That is the main reason we have fewer yards.

We can move the ball between the 20s as well as anyone. It is what happens once we get into the scoring zone that is keeping us from being discussed as a team to look out for.

The only thing stopping us from be a playoff team. Is our own Offense. We get back to owning the Red Zone, and we are as good as anyone. Truly. We were top 10 in TD in the Red Zone the last 2 years. This year????? I don't know. I do know it has been sad 3 of our games, and we lost. We were good in 2 games, and we won. Coinky Dinky? I think not. Thankfully we are trending up.

I am looking at it like Shula is dialing it in nicely. We seem to be getting better, That, I can live with.

My fervent hope is that winning cures the WTF? blues. We limit those plays our O is as good as ALMOST anyones. And that does factor in our O-line.

As you can tell. I am giddy over this Offense. And that hasn't even factored in Barner, or Stewy for that matter. Not counting on much from Barner, so if he can contribute it is a pleasant surprise. Stewy is the question? If he returns and plays well...? That can help us as a team. And open the door for a poo ton of speculation. Or if Stewy falterz? That would kinda suck for everyone involved.

Ok, tl/dr version. Hubby happy with the Offense. We limit, or cut out entirely, those WTF? moments and we are a very good Offense. Paired with our Defense. We have a chance to be really good. I can live with that.

PS...Our weapons are pretty good. Not great, but certainly not bad. Especially with the emergence of Freddy. And it pains me greatly to say that.

I would be surprised if both Freddy and Donald are not Panthers next year. Especially if the plan is to attempt to draft a potential Smitty replacement. Chances are the kid would take some time to develop, so having Freddy and Donald around would be smart.

However, If the powers that be want to bring in a Vet #1 WR, which would amaze me no end, then I could see Donald not being here. He is probably worth more on the open market than what we could offer him to be #4 on our roster.

I expect Freddy to be back. With Smitty, that still leave 2 or so spots that need to be filled. Hixon, still has 11 games to prove he deserves a shot. So it is going to be interesting to see how this position evolves.

The question comes down to what do the powers that be want to do with their first pick? Playmaker for Cam. But you have to have patience with these picks. They take time to develop. You just never know who can ball, or who needs some time.

OT with the first pick is a safe call. The good ones can play from day one, and make you line instantly better.

Tough call in my book. We have a pretty good Offense this year, with a shaky O-line. Plugging in a quality LT could only make it better. But you can say the same about the WR corp. Adding a PlayMaker would improve the unit immensely.

Ah hellz, what do I know? Goooooo CATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think star was BPA AND need.  Hopkins is awesome, but star is going to be amazing.

Curious, but what would you do if you had Sammy Watkins or an elite LT with your 1st pick?

i won't lie, i havent kept on college football enough this year to give a fair answer.  Elite LT's are hard to come by and we saw their value this year as like 4 or so were taken top 12.

WR's are often hit or miss, but I know SW is supposed to be special.  I think they have a big game this weekend, let's see what he does under the spot light.

I'd say ask me after this weekend, even though you haven't (big stage and FSU does the one thing Watkins needs to show he has improved on).....but I'd lean toward Sammy and FA LT.  A&M kid might be nice as well.

Is Evans eligible next draft?  I assume thats who you are referring to

It always has to be BPA.  You can't decide 6 months before who you are going to take.  A WR is a big need but then again it was this year as well.  But taking Star for example was a no brainer.  You take the best guy you can at the pick you have.

Thats true

Not to compare, but the Packers is one example. You say protect the playmaker, but that playmaker has to throw to somebody... somebody that makes the plays. This offseason really is all about the offense, potentially losing Gross AND Steve... who knows

Watkins had a huge game vs Georgia, which normally has a decent secondary. he does have a huge game this week tho vs FSU and there aggressive DBs. I think they held him to 24 yards last year, and the WR coach has already called him out about stepping up. lets see how he responds this week.Mike Evans appears to be a stud as well, huge target for a QB. Cam would love to have Evans I think because of his catching radius, but if an Elite LT is on the board, you what DG is going to do.
