Blitzing

As much as the checkdowns mattered, we constantly brought people. Even when we were up 35-10, we were still blitzing safeties. I think all the changes overall may have been brought on by Rivera, rather than each coordinator individually. Maybe if we consistently do these things from now on, we will win some games consistently. who cares about winning close games when you can just blow out your opponent.

Keep in mind it was a tactic utilized by the coaches for this specific game. It may not work against another opponent with quick drops and timing patterns.

It was repeated over and over how good Cassel is when he hits his 5 and 7 step drops. The blitz kept him from doing that for the most part.

i think it could work in about every game. it all depends on how infrequently we do it and how well we disguise it.

keep LBs and DBs on the line but keep on dropping them back in coverage most the time while most the pressure is brought from the front four and at random times blitz them from the same formations.

I can see it working as long as our DB's can hold their own AND the rush gets to the QB. If we blitz and don't get there our poor corners will be calling the coroners.

Let's see what the defense can do against an offense that gets the ball out quick and neutralizes the front four and/or blitzes. The secondary has held up as well as we could hope for so far but we've yet to face a QB like a Brees or Brady.

This is exactly what I want to see.

i don't think they'd need to hold their own too much if we don't do it too often.

if we are unpredictable with the blitzes like we were yesterday, 9 times out of 10 it's going to be either a sack, an INT, or some kind of blown play.

if we show our hand and/or can't get back to the QB in blitzes like that i think our secondary could be exploited, but done rightly (which it seems we know how to do) i think that it could work pretty consistently.

the main thing, tho, is just making sure that our front four can always bring pressure on the QB because that just opens things up for that quite a bit.

Saw a poor mans version of it already....lost against a rookie QB doing it

Why didn't we blitz against the Cards...

Why didn't we blitz against the Bills

A rookie QB

That made no sense and infuriated me. You look back at these losses aside from Seattle and have to ask what was the coaches doing after half-time. Absolutely no adjustments

Yeah, it seems like whatever gameplan we derive going into the game, its the same gameplan we stick with. We will never be a great team if our coaching staff aren't willing to or are unable to adjust the gameplan.
