Points Per Game...

Open minded play calling will be the key going forward. Too often a gameplan has been called on what we want to do, not what we can do. Arizona blitzed and blitzed and blitzed and yet every play was long streaks and posts and 15 yard crossing routes. Had we used the screen like we did against Minnesota, it would have been far different. The coaching staff should be going into games with a gameplan certainly. But if you see nothing but heavy blitzes over a few series, adjust before the game gets outs of control. I haven't seen so many RB screen passes since Brian Westbrook was on the Eagles in his prime as I saw against Minnesota on Sunday. Eventually Minnesota had to tone down the blitzes, and gave our offense opportunities to open up and take shots. That's what needs to happen going forward.

I agree with the lack of WTF? moments. It did make a difference.

But... Shula needs to get some credit for yesterday. He came out of his shell and called a really good game. On the first TD, he had Smitty go in motion to identify the man coverage, and then run a short crossing route all the way across the field with at least 2 rubs against that man defense. The defender didn't have a chance. And it was 4th down. That took some serious cojones.

And on the second TD drive, we saw a delayed crossing route by Lafell against the blitz on 3rd and 10, a flea-flicker TE screen, and a shovel pass to Tolbert for the TD.

If Shula can keep this up, defenses are never gonna be able to figure him out. He's playing chess now, not checkers.

I think we're almost there. Just one good draft and a couple Free Agent away. We're not just a wishful thinking team. When we win we manhandle our opponent and when we lose the game is close. We need our Julio Jones badly in this offense and we need to consider giving away a couple picks for that. Once we're a playoffs team those draft picks aren't as important because we'll be picking low anyway.
