Props to Shula or Rivera

Does Shula deserve credit for doing what he should have been doing all along? Oh, and quit being cute. I'm sorry but this still feels like Chud 2.0. It blows my mind that they never thought about giving Cam a check down option, rather than worry about having blockers. He didn't have the option prior, and he did today. Result? 20-26 and 3 TD. This can work against everybody.

It hurts to do this (defend Shula) but I guess I will do it.  There were check downs and shorter routes in the Arizona game.  Cam either didn't have time to go to them , held the ball too long or missed them.   Add to that the drive and momentum killing dropped balls and crushing holding penalties and poof you have 6 points.

Could there have been a few more options on offense?  Of course.  But to put the blame on Shula for the Arizona game is not true.  Since the Seattle game his play calling has been much better.  The only difference is our execution.  How many dropped balls did we see yesterday?  How many Byron Bell holding penalties?

I've been a pretty vocal Shula critic, but I'll say this:

Obviously the play calling was there in the two wins, but I liked the play calling against Seattle as well. Against a team like that, I thought conservative was smart and it was an unlikely fumble away from a win.

What he did yesterday that I liked:

Enough designed Cam runs to keep the opposing D honest and to get Can involved. You can't help but notice that Cam has fun running the ball and he's gotten really smart about it, too.

He never abandoned the power run game. The pass happy bullshit against Buffalo drove me nuts and I think it was a knee jerk reaction to the Seattle game. (Plus he figured we could exploit their questionable secondary, then he refused to adjust to the fact that Cam wasn't very sharp that day.)

He used some creativity, but he didn't overuse it.

Now just pray that he learned something and this wasn't a fluke. History shows otherwise.

i know i'm in the minority when saying this, other than a handful of plays at certain time, I've been okay with Shula.  There certainly should have been some adjustments last week, but he is basically running the same system that had us a top 5-10 offense the past couple seasons.  Execution has been lacking at all positions at different times.

I think Ron has come around more, he isn't even considering anything else but going for it on 4th and 1.  I think the weekly preparation is more important though.

The one thing I observe about this team (players and coaches)  is momenteum.

When they have it, great; but, when they lose it, they can't recover.

Its just seems to be a domino effect, one way or the other.

They have no confidence when they get down that they can comeback, and yes, I know sometimes its game plan; but, when our playmakers on either side of the ball need to do something to stop that backward slide they don't.

Who on this board did not think Brady was going to pull it off yesterday?  It is a hard thing to explain, that will to not lose.

Exactly.

The offensive issues and inconsistencies ahs been caused by several factors (dropped passes at crucial times, stupid penalties at crucial times, Cam missing WR's at times, etc).  None are THE reason for the issues.....but all have contributed to it at different times.

Yestersday, we put it all together....and you see how good this offense can be.  And, that this offense has PLENTY of weapons...we just have to stop shooting outselves in the foot.
