Why are people getting excited over Cam's play today?

yep cam fumbled at the 5, cam let EJ fuggin Manuel go Tom Brady on us, cam dropped 2 routine TD passes. last year cam also gave up a 60 yard prayer to matt ryan and roddy white, gave up 17 slants in a row to brandon marshall, let brady quinn look like peyton manning, let josh freeman rally, the list goes on

Oh, I agree with the frustration but can certainly handle it better than you...this is the first time I think the Panthers have a shot at the playoffs in years....Cam is maturing and D is solid....get Stew back and Ginn in the mix, it could very well happen.

 

my prediction is that it all depends on the o-line. that is really all it boils down to.

He was awesome today. And has been this year other than last week.

But he needs to beat a few quality teams this year along with most of the ones he should win

cam made good decisions with the ball today, throwing to the relief valve rather than wait too long for the down field routes to open up. he kept the ball moving, adding 2-5yds, rather than taking a sack. the offense as a whole, from OC to QB to OL to specialty players, all played and planned better. plus, Ginn is really starting to gel with cam and the offense. he's making a huge difference.

It is 5 games. I usually like to look at larger sample sizes. If I didn't I woulda thought Matt Moore was a top 5 QB based off of 5 games at the end of 2009.

Debby Downer alert: He's been able to blow a few teams out every year, not one person has said he can't. His problem remains close games. Get back to me after ONE close win where he win because of Cam. Until then, enjoy these wins in the moment, but know that this season is still another wasted year until Cam can be counted on the clutch. It's not impossible, but a 35-10 win over a bad team does absolutely nothing to allay any fear about Cam I've had lately.

In 3 of our 5 games this season our last offensive possession we had the lead.

We really haven't had a lot of time playing from behind in the fourth.

The Arizona game obviously is hurting his 4th quarter QBR seeing as the Seattle game we only had one full possession in the fourth, one which we drove right down the field but fumbled

Looks like Matt Moore had the same total QBR as Cam's rookie season

Cam can be very frustrating at times, but a win is a win! Most of these close games that he never seems to pull out are more the product of poor coaching.

In answer to the OP's question, if it hasn't be said, and if it has, it bears repetition, Cam's use of checkdowns/screens is something some of us have been begging for for a longgggg time now.  We saw it today, and they worked beautifully.  I thought the oft offered excuse that the short game was a weakness of Cam's was complete BS. If we could just work a few two TE sets into the mix. Seem like using Ginn up the middle is almost as good for now though.
