I hope AP gets KTFO this game...

Just catching up on some reading this morning. I am a bit behind on the Adrian Peterson's son and the situation.

Its tragic when any child dies. His mother deserves all the support in the world.

But as far as AP is concerned, he is a dead beat loser. I hope he gets KTFO today. When you deny the child is yours for years and then acknowledge him only when forced to after a court confirms the DNA result is a cowardly irresponsible and cruel thing to do to a kid.

Stress? Stress is raising a kid on your own while the father is making millions and denying any responsibility.

Sorry AP, you get zero sympathy. You weren't a father to him in life, you don't deserve anything in his death.

You apparently didn't hear the whole story.

The kids mother did not know that AP was the father until 2-3 months ago. She apparently thought it was another man's child and didn't find out he wasn't the father until she tried to collect child support from him and the DNA test confirmed it wasn't his. AP only found out two months ago that the child was his when she reached out to him. Sounds to me like the mother who had to know that her boyfriend had been arrested previously for an assault on a child should be a target for your ire.

I've been mulling this over all weekend. I wish somebody of importance in the NFL would just say what everyone is thinking. If AP was living with his son as all fathers should, this would not have happened.

Seems like a lot of pro athletes have no problem making babies. Phillip Rivers (who is married) has 6 kids.

Gotta be careful when you start calling out certain athletes for being dead beat dads. Slippery slope!

This is what I heard to.  Unless something new has come up, I'm surprised by most posters in this thread.

Since the story broke, I've been firmly of the belief that of course this story is sad, but it has absolutely nothing to do with football.  I feel terrible for the mother, her family, and of course the kid who never got a chance in life, but the media ignoring all of the facts that are so readily available to anyone who is following the story online is a little ridiculous.  I don't expect ESPN and their peers to paint Peterson as a villain, but stop trying to force feed this as an inspirational story; it isn't one.  It's a tragedy.  The worst part of watching today's game will be the announcers constantly making mention of "Peterson's loss".  All he lost was an afternoon of travel to see a kid he didn't want.

When the story broke, and details were scarce, of course it was hard to fathom how he could possibly play today, but as details are released, it's easy to understand.  He had no relationship with the kid, and there was zero evidence he ever planned to have one outside of a financial one that was required by law.

Crush Peterson and the Vikings today, Panthers.  No more or less so than you would have a week ago.   As far as football is concerned, absolutely nothing has changed.

He wasn't even there when they took him off life support.

he left a couple of hours prior to be at PRACTICE.

Yup. I called this in another thread. Regardless of how much AP was in his son's life, the sensationalist media always loves a story like this....and so does the NFL. Personal tragedy into personal triumph. Americans eat that poo up.

Remember last year vs the Chiefs? There were serious conversations being made about cancelling the game after the murder/suicide committed by the LB. Instead, the worst team in the league (record wise), which has been around since the inception of the NFL, was a delay of game penalty away from having their first unpenalized game in the history of their team.

I'm convinced that the refs are going to be extra lenient towards the Vikes today and will do everything in their power for the Vikes to win and for AP to have a monster game. If the Panthers so much as pass gas in the wrong direction, punt the ball too high, or look at someone wrong ...expect serious consequences. It's just the invisible hand of the NFL spreading propaganda and creating a "story".

You called it lol who the fug cares. You called the media taking advantage of a personal tragedy, yea real foresight.

The refs lenient? The chief game? You're joking right? The panther played awful that game and deserved to lose and be one of only two wins the Chiefs we able to win. Don't blame refs or the situation, or espn, just dumb. it is getting hard to be a fan with you guys damn.

Feel bad for the kids mother? You bet.

Feel bad for AP, hell no.

IMHO, he shoulders some of the blame for what happened to the kid. Maybe if he manned up and took responsibility the kid would have been raised under better conditions.

AP = Garbage.

I feel nothing for that mother.  She is damn near as culpable in this situation as the asshat that killed the kid.  She KNEW he was abusive, hell she KNEW he had abused children in the past and still chose to leave her 2 year old child alone with this psychopath.  I don't care how much you're "in love with someone", your children come first, its part of being a parent.  As for the AP situation, he was a turd for what he did, but the terms of the situation are so bad that it's still a tragedy.  If I had a bastard second nephew twice removed that was murdered in such a way, I still would be very mad.

All of that said, Football is still football, work is still work, and life is still life.  By this I mean, feel bad for him all you want, its ok and understandable, but leave your sympathies at the door when you get to work because first and foremost, you have a job to do.

Rivers had had 6 children with his wife.  They are all living together as a family.  Don't know how you can bring him into this discussion.

I see your point but the "everyone is doing it" argument isn't good enough for me. AP has the oppurtunity to change the mindset of his colleagues and future colleagues. Does he take that opportunity or worry only about rushing records? There are examples of men that do right by their kids. Deangelo is not married from what I know but he's always spending time with his child. Thomas Davis has children from a couple relationships and his spouses former relationships and he raises them all as his own.

One dad that deserves some criticism is Tom Brady. He had a child with an actress but has only recently made efforts to spend the minimum time with the kid. We have to change the way people think, it's not ok if you are broke working at McDonalds and it's not ok if you make millions in the NFL.
