"Could Dave Gettleman's plans for the Panthers future not include Cam Newton"

Yea you are absolutely right. We should just go on a late season run so we can carry that "momentum" into next season and pick up where we left off just like the last two seasons, oh wait...

This isn't Madden.  You're talking about screwing with real people's real world jobs and their real ability to provide for their very real families.

Do you actually think the coaching staff would be okay with tanking the year knowing they'll be fired at season's end?  Or players knowing they'll be cut when the season is over?  The whole idea is ridiculous to the point of absolute absurdity.

In the real world, teams...do...not...tank...seasons!   It just doesn't happen.  Nor should it

If you really watched film you would understand how ignorant you sound. Also watch what Cam says, he knows his weakness and is improving on them. That's a sign of a great QB, not a good one.

Devils advocate would say he also has not improved in two and a half years. Same sloppy footwork, poor accuracy in the short-to-intermediate.

If we're talking QBs in this draft, Boyd is probably my favorite

Boyd is built in the mold of Cam, but has even worse mechanics. I doubt he's the fifth best prospect in this draft, even if Hogan and Hundley don't declare.

I... Honestly don't know. I think it's an option DG has to look at, if just to explore all options. It also depends what we get in compensation, who is there when we pick, etc.

His value would have been much higher after the 2011 season. Three years with Rivera, and now a lame duck season drag it down.

We have to fully understand the ramifications of such a move. I think people who are quick to give up are under the impression that after all these young QB's having such early success that we can just draft one in an early round and hit. That's the stuff of fairy tales.

Not to mention some of those first year quarterbacks are looking awfully mortal this season. Mark Sanchez anyone? Things change quickly. I see little chance that Cam Newton doesn't get at least one more season to prove himself. I just hope we get a competent head coach.

He hired a GM that wasn't all about it...

You don't think whether or not he thought he could win with Cam was one of the first questions when we interviewed Gettleman?

There's no way it didn't come up, and if he felt Cam wasn't the answer, I highly doubt he would have been hired.

Boyd isn't built to run in the NFL like Newton....no one to date is

No. Not one of the first.

Reality is the average career is 3 yrs. You don't hire a GM based on if he likes 1 player. It probably came up but so did lots of questions.

I'm am becoming increasingly convinced that Cam could run a WCO. More so than I thought two years ago.

Despite the current narrative Cam is a better QB than he was two years ago. Just because his stats aren't soaring doesn't mean he isn't getting better.
