"Could Dave Gettleman's plans for the Panthers future not include Cam Newton"

Here is an idea. Keep Cam but tank the season for the number two overall pick and trade that pick for a slew of picks. Its a win/win for both sides. Those that want to trade Cam in exchange for draft picks win because they still get the draft picks they want and those that want to keep Cam win because well, because we will be keeping Cam. Lets face it, after our loss to the Vikes tommorrow where AP has a career day, we will be three games back for a wild card and 5 games back from the division. Just go 1-15 and go for a good draft day.

I don't even know where to start...

Start by ignoring the ridiculous suggestion.

Tanked seasons are a fan fantasy.  No real life team does that.

To do so would involve people deliberately sacrificing their jobs.

Does anyone really believe someone would do that "for the good of the team"?

Oh, you mean like when jay cutler was traded? Or how the skins traded all of those picks to get RG3?

It happens.

Or the Trent Richardson trade for a 1st round pick during the season, or the Julio Jones trade, or the Dolphins trade last year to land Dion Jordan etc. Trades like this happen more often than people think. I dont know why people think trades like this are super rare in the NFL.

Or perhaps you have a better option like winning meaningless games for a 6 or 7 win season for a lame duck and fug up our draft position? Lets face it, we lose tommorrow do you honestly think we will edge the 9ers, Lions or Packers for a wild card?

No, but you play to win the game, dude. I'm sure it'd go over real well if you went to Smitty and said "hey dude, so, yeah, we're going to tank".

Good luck passing that over with some of these players.

Yea you are absolutely right. We should just go on a late season run so we can carry that "momentum" into next season and pick up where we left off just like the last two seasons, oh wait...

Yeah two great trades there. All the more reason for teams to keep that in mind before offering a kings ransom.

The bears have a winning record with cutler, RG3 got to the playoffs. How about Alex smith? Did that work out for the chiefs?

What about Rivers and picks for manning? Did that go over well?

More like "We're going to tank this season, despite the fact that you're 34 years old and if you don't come back looking good next year we might have to cut you.  Plus his strategy is going to cost all the coaches and a lot of players their jobs."

"You're on board with this, right?"

Frankly, screw Smitty. He will be gone in a season or two anyway. Im sorry but the notion of winning out the end of the season to carry "momentum" into next season is just as ridiculous as tanking for good draft position.

All these scenarios, we could argue for weeks. Let's get down to the point.

You really think trading Cam Newton is a good plan?

I am completely capable of understanding, but thanks for the insight. What you need to understand is what we mean when we say pocket passer. Proactive reading of the defense, internal time clock that tells the QB when to get rid of the ball, accuracy, good footwork, etc. Cam leaves too many WRs open while forcing passes to Smith or Olsen. The best pocket passers master these things,

Everyone here is ridiculing Shula for not turning Cam loose more-they do not mean in the pocket.

Why the hell does everyone get upset when anyone questions the great Cam Newton's ability? He has lost us more games than he has won us. Heck, they are ripping Eli Manning in NY right now, and he has 2 rings.

If you really watched film you would understand how ignorant you sound. Also watch what Cam says, he knows his weakness and is improving on them. That's a sign of a great QB, not a good one.

I... Honestly don't know. I think it's an option DG has to look at, if just to explore all options. It also depends what we get in compensation, who is there when we pick, etc.
