Bill Barnwell on the Panthers[and Cam]

Gucci Mane

Recommended Posts

The Panthers had to rebuild their defense.  Remember how bad we were?  While the secondary has regressed, I would argue that we have, finally, built a defense.  However, by building our defense we neglected our offense and now everyone is old and doesn't produce, not to mention our o-line is doo doo. Now we don't have any money and we have to pay a bunch of people.  Everything this guy says is what I have been saying quietly to myself for awhile.  It amazes me how bad we let Hurney fug us.

True, a bad line can destroy your pocket presence. He hasn't yet learned how to navigate a pocket the way Peyton can.

I don't think ANYONE would dispute this.  Yet, despite this, he still threw for more yards, accounted for 8 more TDs, 14 fewer INT's, and an additional 1,450 on the ground in his first two years than Peyton did in his first two years.

New coach, new OC, offensive dominated draft and FA=new ballgame in town.

Well probably be in position to get a good LT or a top WR in the draft if things keep going this way, wonder which one they should go with

A new coaching staff + top flight prospect (top-10 pick methinks at the rate we're going) sounds like a plan

What the Panthers have done on offense since Cam was drafted:

Draft WR Kealoha Pilares - cut

Draft OL Zach Williams - cut

Draft OL Lee Ziemba - cut

Trade for TE Greg Olsen - #1 TE

Sign TE Jeremy Shockey - not resigned

Sign WR Legedu Naanee - trash

Trade for WR Louis Murphy - trash

Sign OL Geoff Hangartner - cut

Draft OL Amini Silatolu - IR

Draft WR Joe Adams - cut

Draft OL Edmund Kugbila - IR

Draft RB Kenjon Barner - Played first game last week

Sign WR Ted Ginn - Has played relatively well

Sign OL Travelle Wharton - adequate starter

What have I missed here? That's fuging terrible poo right there.

That should change this draft.  Defense has been improved dramatically since Cam was drafted.  Now it's the offense's turn for a rebirth.

That last quote says it all, but fortunately, Hurney's fugging us did allow us to get our long term answer at QB, Cameron Jerrell Newton, and the close losses the last two years did net Luke and Star.  I am not pulling for losses at this point which I felt would have benefitted us at the end of last year (would have canned Rivera already, got Star anyway due to heart condition and other factors), but this year's draft does have quality and quantity at OL and WR.  May the chips fall where they may, but we cannot do better at the most important position than what we have now.  He is 24 and the average age of Super Bowl winning QB's is 30.  Time will tell.

Not saying that the article is right or wrong. But, it is hilarious to see so many of you slobber all over any writer who prints something you agree with and call anyone who doesn't a hack,

If Barnwell came out next month with an article that is critical if Cam, I guarantee the same posters slobbering in here would call him every negative name in the book.

Damn we are a fickle fan base

I didn't mean rookie Peyton I mean Peyton now. That's why qbs that can run can sometimes be a gift and a curse. Cam has always been able to escape defenders by pure athletic ability. Peyton has never broken a racket in his life, he can't shrug out defenders. So he had to develop a way to escape defenders and he does it by being smart, knowing where he wants to go with the football presnap, and side stepping in the pocket to avoid defenders.

It's similar to Lebron James in the NBA. When he first came into the league he couldn't shoot. Never needed to, he's always been able to rely on just physical ability. Overtime that goes away and he'll need a consistent jump shot. That's why Kobe has lasted so long at a high level and that's why Peyton is playing the best football of his career. That and the weapons he has good god that team is stacked.

    • Cam is the GOAT dual threat, but we've never been able to have back to back seasons with winning records despite the late season surge winning streaks, my favorite being the year we won the south in the 2nd half of the season. But winning 2 games late in the year against bad teams doesn't establish a "winning culture"  If they beat the Falcons bucs once, competitive against the chiefs and eagles i will have no problem with wins then because it's against legitimate competition but beating the giants and saints just to feel good, hard pass.
