RB Question

No, not a trade question.

When JStew comes back how are the touches going to be split? Barner is hardly getting playing time as is, how much will he get then?

I'm assuming DeAngelo is RB1 the whole season, barring injury.

Seriously doubt Stewart is up to a heavy workload.

He probably serves as a complementary back, with Barner getting touches here and there.

If the coaching is smart, they'll split based on situational awareness and the ebb and flow of the game.

That being said, I predict anywhere from a 35-60-5 split all the way to a 47-48-5 split, with either back getting the majority on a week by week basis, with Barner and Tolbert getting some token spots.

Traditionally we have had the most success when Stewart pounds the rock in the first half and Williams comes in with fresh legs in the second half.  This won't be likely immediately as Stewart will need time to get back in the swing.  I am kind of worried that things will get muddled and we will have no clear strategy (kinda like the first half of last season).  Sometimes I think it works best for us to have just one featured back, which is why I think we will see one or the other depart after this season.  Maybe Shula can use both wisely...maybe...

If and when he does come back, he will not be in Game shape (hasnt played since mid 2012).Lets do the math.....comes back game 7 according to RR, three or four weeks to get his legs under him...so six games left 2013 season...If we keep crapping the bed we will be playing for nothing by then. It's a wash.

I may be alone on this, but I just can't see Stewart playing this year.  There has been no update on his progress at all, and we all thought he would be good to go by camp and that was far from true.

When do we have to take him off the PUP list - after this week?

    • Just had Thanksgiving meal with a couple dozen family and friends. I lucked out and got one of the smoked turkey legs. Stuffing, mashed taters and gravy, green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole, kale, smoked ham, chicken and rice, corn, lima beans, cranberry sauce, and great people. My brother got his guitar out and we got to singing. Lots of actual conversations with people I hardly  ever get to see, haven't seen in a while, or who I never met before. Just a great moment to remember.
    • 3-8 would be a higher win percentage than 3-9
    • Same... With the personnel the Niners had, that defense could have been historically good in the right hands. Under Wilks they were certainly good, they didn't quite rise to that level. Honestly, I see Wilks kinda like I see Rivera: fantastic person, decent head coach. Skill wise, phenomenal DB coach, so-so DC. His greatest strength is his leadership. Hard to find many better in that department. In the Xs and Os / execution area though, not as good. Bottom Line: Wilks is the sort of coach that needs a staff that excels in those aspects of the game where he's weaker. But, like Rivera, I don't know that he scouts assistants very well. That as much as anything might be why he's not in the NFL now.
