Hurney purge continues....killing the ghost

Said this many times already, DG aint about this year, he is looking at the future.

This is all about shedding bad contracts, and getting this team ready to win games in the future.

Seems familiar, isn't this what people were saying in 2010 when JR purged our roster and sent John Fox into a lame duck year?

New GM, same story. It starts with JR.

Agreed, but this is a move made by the GM to get rid of the poo and stench left over from Hurney, not JR.

That needs it's own thread...and has many of them

Said it back then and last year, HC goes with the GM and GM should have gone with the HC.  JR does things differently, but with the same result.

Just how different is Gettleman from Hurney?

We still having glaring holes on our roster. If we sign three nobody's to fill those spots that will tell us plenty. I hope not.

It was not like we really had the cap space to work with this year. Blame Hurney but the fact is he screwed us and Rivera over badly. Honetly without hurneys pet contracts we could have over hauled the whole line this year. Yet we are stuck with a terrible line and terrible WRs.

You aren't going to find any defense of Hurney from me. I know just how bad he was.

Like I've been saying though. Our woes ultimately begin and end with the man above the GM.

Fault Jerry for having fath but he did fire him when his plan backfired. In the back of my mind I have to wonder if Hurney didnt throw Fox under the bus to save his ass for a few years. Look were Fox is with a competent GM. With that said DG is doing what he needs to do to get us in the right position. He has almost got rid of all Pet contracts except Johnsons and Godfreys and IMO he is getting rid of Rivera which is another Hurney mistake. Still Jerry would have done Rivera a favor last year by firing him. He is going to go down as one of the worst coaches ever.

I'm not sure I'm a fan of DG anymore. We keep getting rid of players, trimming down contracts for this year with restructures while making future cap situations worse but we aren't making positive moves to improve the team by bringing in talent. It's not like we need to go after blue chip free agents but at least try to snag some quality backups. Something.

We're sacrificing another season just like 2010 because Jerry didn't want to pay two coaches at once. That's what it boils down to.

I'm glad GMan is taking out the trash and opening up cap space. I wished Rivera was fired after last year because I knew this would end up being another wasted year. For being as old and frail as he is, JR is in no hurry to get better. Can't take that money with you.

The only issue I have so far with DG is the drafting of Kugbila and Barner (and maybe AJ Klein) when there were so many other holes. Otherwise he has gotten rid of dead weight QUICKLY, fixed some of the cap problems and done OK in freee agency.

Hopefully as he gets more freedom and money he will do very well.

Way to early to tell.

Barner was done bc we need to part with double trouble

Klein was done bc of Beason and Davis being so fragile

Everything DG has done has been about setting up for 2014. Been saying it....

If he wanted us to win now with RR....he would have fixed our OL (which would have given our O a shot at being consistent). He didn't and wasn't going to waste resources on a O he would soon scrap.

Double down on DT was to build a NY D.

He isn't going to invest in RR. Has shown since he arrived he was looking at 2014.

The fact we went into the season with this OL was a blazing alarm.

Why I didn't like DG. JR should of fired RR. DG just makes it a wasted season bc he has RR coaching under a guy not aiding his team

All of that may be true, but if so, Gettleman never should have accepted the job.

If he knew that his plan included doing the minimum possible to help us win this year, then he and JR have just said a big "Fug You" to the players and fans.

And I don't care about Armanti. I really don't. But I see no point in cutting him now unless he somehow really screwed something up. We don't need the roster spots (had 2 open already) and it's going to have no real impact on the cap, so what's the point?

The only thing I can figure is they didn't want to pay him an injury settlement (i.e. had they cut him when he had his hamstring problem), so they waited for him to play enough that he couldn't claim continuing injury. The whole thing is just strange to me.

Jesus, HOW QUICK you people forget that the man inherited a HORRIBLE salary cap situation, was able to rework SEVERAL contracts to get cap space and still found a way to sign a lot more FA's then ANYONE would have thought possible.

Im not a fan or a hater, but considering the circumstances in which DG was thrown into he has done quite well.

Don't forget he probably had RR telling him every day he could win with this team and they were right on the breaking point. Being  DG was going to have to give RR this year regardless, he was probably thinking PROVE IT.

I think the man has done a commendable job considering what he took over.
