Highly intelligent breeds such as German Shepherds and Doberman Pinschers have extremely active minds. It's hard for them to behave as a puppy when left uncrated. Too much going on in those active little minds.

Also, never correct a dog unless you catch them in the act. They aren't children, you can't tell them why they are being punished.

this is sooooo true.

 

We had several Dobermans when I was growing up.  We left a 9 month old male on teh back porch for a few hours while we went to the store.  Came home and he had eaten the linoleum off the floor.....not pulled it up, but ate the poo.

 

Shepards and Dobermans get bored VERY easily.
