The Thing People are Forgetting About Cam vs Other Young QBs...

Gucci Mane

Kaepernick- 4 Years, Nevada

Wilson- 4 Years, NCSU-Wisconsin

Luck- 4 Years, Stanford

RG3- 4 Years, Baylor

Dalton- 4 Years, TCU

EJ- 4 Years, FSU

Geno- 4 Years, WVU

Cam Newton- 1 year at Florida [doesnt really count], 1 year at Blinn college [title], 1 year at Auburn [title]

If you dont think this amounts to anything tangible, i have a bridge for sale. Cam is still growing with his game, and it sucks we havent given him the tools to become the QB we all know he can be.

And if you think about it, the year at Blinn doesnt really qualify because that was to prepare him for the SEC which is supposed to prepare you for the league. He only spent one year in college playing football at a level that can somewhat help you transition into being a pro.

give him an OL.

give him an OC who takes advantages of his strengths and works around his limitations.

give him a HC who trusts his abilities.

give him a GM who builds around him.

give him his confidence back.

give him the ability to just make things happen.

give him a team that doesn't think that losing is ok and just something that happens that you have to get used to.

right QB. crappy situation.

So he wasn't ready. Just playing devils advocate....

We didnt necessarily draft him with the intentions of playing right away, but he proved to be our best option and an option that had a higher ceiling than anyone playing the position in the entire league.

I personally think he was "ready". Sometimes you just gotta get through the rough learning curve before you truly become what the expectations were.

You absolutely draft someone #1 overall with the intentions of them starting right away....

When is the 'rough' learning curve over?  We're in year 3 btw

Great point.  Also helps to explain some of the locker room and "maturity" issues.

I admit I was taken back when the story came out about Cam working out in a seperate room and distancing himself from teammates until Thomas Davis called him out in front of everyone.  Cam has shown great strides this year IMO in that regard, and rather we like to admit it or not, he did have a lot of growing up to do.

True, mentally/experience wise he is behind. As far as talent wise, he isn't behind. Not including his 6'5, 250lb frame. Also, he didnt run a pro style offense like some others. But like he said when he came in the league, "Just because I haven't done it, doesn't mean I can't." Which is very true.

Also, to answer csx:

He was ready to play QB at an NFL level. (Hince his insane production/stats; team wins don't count as it takes a whole team to win or lose). We seen his ceiling and pulled the trigger. I believe he has a higher ceiling than any of them.

Also, other young QBs benifited from things like weak schedule (Luck), 1,000+ yards rushing (RG3/Wilson/maybe Kaep), coach/weapons (Kaep/Wilson). Not taking anything from them, but replace them with Cam and you would have got same result or better.

    • Will go to my grave still saying this. Turning point of the game was that call and the play right after it. We had momentum before that poo call and the strip sack
    • Drake Maye has nothing on offense lol   We already have a decent Oline and good young WRs. Bad comparison.   Even if the Pats aren't winning you can see they have a franchise QB. Once they get him a Oline and a WR that team is gonna takeoff.   Hey man I'm not here to tell you what to believe. Im just speaking for me and what I'm seeing around the league. These bottom feeders are getting better because they got their QB. It's the most important position in football imo. I understand some may disagree, but yeah I don't see how this franchise will have success without a franchise QB. Usually that's what makes teams consistently good.
    • One more observation:  Over here, we tend to mock people who wear "wrong" jerseys to a particular game. Think of the random Chiefs jersey spotted at the Panthers training camp, or a Dallas fan showing up to a PIT-BAL game In Europe, the fans of (whatever team) are happy to be surrounded by other NFL fans, and happy to attend any NFL game at all, no matter who's playing. We saw jerseys from pretty much every other team present around town and at the stadium Because they have so few opportunities to cheer their own team live in person, they take every opportunity to celebrate NFL in general, even if it means wearing "the wrong" jersey for an international game. Those fans are excited just to watch football, no matter who is playing
