Cam's Company (put on your thinking caps)

Teams that would unquestionably be better with Cam at QB:

Bucs

Jets

Bills

Dolphins

Eagles

Redskins

Titans

Jags

Vikes

Bears

Bengals

Browns

49ers

Rams

Cardinals

Raiders

Chiefs

Teams that would unquestionably be worse with Cam at QB:

Saints

Patriots

Packers

Broncos

The rest I'd give a push, I'm not sure.

Pair him with an offensive minded coach or one with even a general clue at all about how to handle a quarterback and he will thrive.

Example: Jim Harbaugh, Pete Carroll, Sean Payton, Mike McCarthy.

Anything is better than Ron Rivera (lol), Mike Shula (developed David Garrard, oh wow), and Ken Dorsey (never been a coach before).

The entire Chargers offensive staff? We need someone from San Diego. They have something going right now. Considering how much money you potentially need to seek into the QB position, good business and pie charts say it is wise to gain an offensive minded coach.

The minute someone says they're "not sold on Joe Flacco" they have lost all credibility.

1. He has started every game thru 5 years and 5 games this season

2. The only QB in history to go thru a post season with no picks (11 TDs) in 4 games. (Joe Montana did the same in 3 games)

3. Finished the 2013 playoffs with a higher QB rating than Brees, Rodgers and Brady.

4. Most wins by a QB in 80 consecutive starts (54)

5. Only QB in history to win a playoff game in each of his first 5 seasons.

6. First QB to have a QB rating over 100 for an entire post season.

Yeah, he's not glamorous and may not have the best regular season completion percentage in the world at 60%, but he doesn't hold the ball and certainly doesn't mind throwing it away rather than toss one up for grabs.

So, while a bunch of you are most assuredly going to claim he's a "system QB" and basically just make a bunch of excuses why he's not an outstanding QB in your mind, just remember the most important stats- he's been to the playoffs every years he's been in the league and he has a ring. Unless you have a guy who can top that, stfu and move on.

Another question- how do you take a handful of 4-1 teams and say they'd be better with Cam? Seems to me they're already doing pretty fugging good without him.

And yes, the Panther coaching staff is horrid and they are doing nothing to improve Cam, develop Cam or design an offense that plays to his strengths, but the fact remains he is not playing well at all, and in all honesty, has not played well far more than he has has.

They would be 5-0?

In most every game Cam is doing fine until the other team makes adjustments and our own incompetent coaching staff doesn't.  That's not on Cam, that's on the coaches.  The Arizona game is a perfect GLARING example of that.  Cam's "not playing well" in that game was a direct result of coaching incompetence.  The WR dropsies wouldn't have even been that big of a deal if we had just adjusted to the defensive adjustments.  Cam was on fire at the beginning of the game.  I swear I could hear "BOOMSHAKALAKA" after every pass he threw.  Then came the 5 second drops....and the only boom I heard was Cardinals laying it on Cam.

Under Kubiak/Dennison, I think Cam would thrive.  That type of offense with 2 TES (Daniels-Graham) along with a young WR in Nuke and the vet Andre is a good fit. Schaub is terrible but that O-line isn't that bad.  That's Dennison's specialty.  Don't forget a primary back (Foster) with a strong change of pace (Tate).  That's the type of parts I'd like to see around Cam.

As things stand, he needs a handful of weapons and better protection and we can put together some winning seasons under a competent coach with a playbook that is more in tune with him.

I get all that and I'm not laying it all at Cam's feet, but I'm not going to absolve him of all responsibility for what's happening, either. You simply cannot hold onto the ball that long in your end zone. You simply cannot take one or 2 steps backwards, sideways or forward in the pocket and think a blitzing LB is going to completely whiff on you.

There's another QB in the league who is struggling more than Cam right now- Eli Manning. Yes, the Manning brother who has 2 rings within a 6-year period and numerous playoff appearances... with the same coaching staff... and they're winless. Is that a coaching issue or is it a QB issue, as long as those seem to be the only two options available to base this discussion?

And I heard this very argument on a show yesterday. The talking heads said Eli needed to be coached up while Cam Newton needed to be benched. My question is what's the difference? Seems to me the experienced veteran would be benched before a 3rd year QB and the younger, less experienced QB would need to be "coached up," not the veteran.

Yea I'm not saying Cam is perfect without fault.  He does hold onto the ball too long sometimes.  I think that's a result of his confidence in his ability to elude the sacks, which he often does.  Sometimes he doesn't.  Sometimes he sails his passes.  He has room for improvement.  He certainly isn't perfect, but for all his faults he brings a lot more to the table than his faults hold us back.  With a competent coaching staff, Cam wouldn't have to be perfect to be successful.  The way the current offense is run, he pretty much has to be perfect to be successful.

And as to the Giants, I think theirs is a personnel issue more than anything.  I think Eli is a serviceable, game managing QB.  I think he's solid.  I think Coughlin is an excellent coach.  I think their defense is getting old, and their O-line and running game are mediocre at best.  I think the problem with that team is that they're too lacking in key aspects of the game and Eli's not superstar QB that can win games with crap surrounding him like the elite QBs can.  In my opinion, Eli is in that same tier of QB with Ruthlessbanger.  A good, solid QB that if given the tools around him (most notably, a strong defense) they can be successful.  In the "SB winning QB" world, they're above the Dilfers and Brad Johnsons, but well below the Bradys, Peyton Mannings, Moles, Rodgerses, Favres, etc.

Only an OC like Shula would be dumb enough to handcuff a threat like Cam as a pure pocket passer. Not everyone is that inept.

Before the season started I believe it was Greg Cosell that said Gettleman was going into the season wanting to see what Cam was capable of as a pocket passer and they were going to try and mold him to that (if possible) to fit Gettleman's philosphy.Exactly what he said was going to happen is what we are seeing so one would think there is some validity to Cosell said. So is it Shula choosing to do that or is it coming from above him?
