Geno Smith > Cam Newton

What I'd rather talk about related to this game is the decision by Mike Smith to go for it on 4th and goal at the nd of the first half. They got stuffed. And how much id they end up losing the game by? Two points.

I'd love to hear from the "COACHES WHO HAVE BALLS GO FOR IT ON FOURTH DOWN THAT''S HOW YOU WIN OMG WE WOULD WIN EVERY TIME IF WE DID THAT" crowd on how they explain this. If I recall correctly, Mike Smith's done that in a couple of games this season and it's been a bad decision each time. And here I was led to believe this was a sure path to victory.

People who have been irate about fourth downs here have very legitimate concerns. Rivera is putrid on decision making in general.

There is a fine line when it comes to that. I don't think Mike Smith would be doing that so much if things weren't warming up beneath him in Atlanta so to speak, just read their forums. How many times did they go for it on fourth down in the regular season last year?

I'll ask you all this - can anyone tell me a game where Cam drove our offense down the field for a game winning drive?

2011

Jags game winning drive IN A MONSOON  :ss:

New Orleans. TD pass with 4 mins left (Defense gave up a game winning TD)

Vikings. Cam moved down the field (including completing a 4th and long) Mare missed game tying FG

Falcons. Cam again moved down the field then Mare missed a game winning FG

2012

Chicago. Potential GW FG then defense blew it

Yeah...Saw this thread coming

Me being a well known WVU homer aside from my Panther fandom, I think I'll sit this one out so as not to be accused of conflict of interest

it's super easy to look at the final score and be like "WHY YES THEY DID LOSE BY THAT MARGIN" but when you put a FG on the board there instead, you don't know how the dynamics of the game change.  it's really, really easy to claim they'd have won if he hadn't gone for it, but you have no idea.  who knows, maybe him kicking a FG doesn't make his team believe they he has the confidence in them to win and they don't score the next couple TDs.  I mean we could get into a million what-ifs...

that being said, I have no idea why, when down only 17 to 7, you don't just kick a FG there.  Makes WAY more sense to go for it if it's 17 to 0... but 17 to 7?? take the fuging fg you lunatic coach.

On the vast majority of our losses, Cam leaves the field for the last time with the Panthers winning. The defense then costs us the game.

Last time Cam saw the field against Buffalo, we were winning.

That happens more often than not.

The whole concept of "game winning drives" in that situation is a complete fallacy.

Funny how that particular logic never stops the opposite crowd from screaming "We'd have won for sure if we'd have gone or it, no question!"

My only grief with Cam is, I would like to see him put some loft on his deep balls.    He throws them so flat that a good DB only has to turn around to catch it.  If Cam had put some air under 2 of his throws we score touch downs instead of a couple of incompletes.

He is a good QB.  Got plenty of learning to do but they way some of you talk.  Geno's better, is Cam the next Freeman?  Grow guys that is so bandwagon talk.  If he does well he is a god, if he doesn't we hear "We shoulda kept Jimmy"

Just crazy talk

You weren't around for the rainbow. catapult, take-all-day-to-get-there passes from Jake in '03 were you?

Don't get me wrong. I love Jake, but my jersey had a built in defibrillator...

lol,  Of course I was around.

Then stop complainin' about the flat passes!

(You know that what Jake was doing shouldn't have worked in the NFL... Seriously, I still can't figure out how those actually worked. I'm quasi-famous around Storrs CT for my drunken southern rage filled "NOOOO! WTF JAKE!?!?!?!" followed by "Well fug... Nevermind...")

He under throws those deep passes.  He had the arm strength to throw them but won't let run under it.   Jake had great loft though it seemed to take a while.

...how many times have I actually seen Cam have a chance to lead us on a game winning drive with 2 minutes to go?

Right! Most of the time Cam would drive them down the field for the kicker to miss or Cam would drive down and score, and our opponent would have a game-winning drive on our D. In those cases Cam did his part, but because others didn't, he doesn't get credit. This thread is a joke. Good day sir!
