Smith calls out Umpire from Arizona game

Smithers

Recommended Posts

Well, let's see. Smitty opened his mouth about the ref that called the PI on him that pretty much was a BS call. I don't blame him one bit for opening his mouth and speaking his mind.

Did he make mistakes in the game? Hell yeah he did! Does that mean he has no right to complain? Not at all. Especially if he has a legit reason for said complaining.

I saw a lot of things that were not called on both sides. but the ones that were called... 9 calls accepted on the Panthers (for 79 yards) to 3 on the Cardinals (for 30 yards)?!

Hell, let's look at 5 of those 9 accepted calls...

ARIZONA Has the Ball at their 15 after Carolina's opening second half drive (Carolina up 6-3)

  1. 1-10-ARI 15 (11:23) 3-C.Palmer pass short left to 11-L.Fitzgerald pushed ob at ARI 21 for 6 yards (22-J.Thomas).
  2. 2-4-ARI 21 (10:56) 3-C.Palmer pass short middle to 81-J.Dray to ARI 27 for 6 yards (59-L.Kuechly).
  3. 1-10-ARI 27 (10:22) 28-R.Mendenhall up the middle to ARI 29 for 2 yards (38-R.Lester).
  4. 2-8-ARI 29 (9:47) 28-R.Mendenhall right tackle to ARI 30 for 1 yard (98-S.Lotulelei).
  5. 3-7-ARI 30 (9:05) (Shotgun) 3-C.Palmer pass short right to 38-A.Ellington to ARI 38 for 8 yards (21-M.Mitchell). PENALTY on CAR-21-M.Mitchell, Personal Foul, 15 yards, enforced at ARI 38.
  6. 1-10-CAR 47 (8:46) 3-C.Palmer pass short left to 21-P.Peterson pushed ob at CAR 39 for 8 yards (22-J.Thomas). PENALTY on CAR-29-D.Florence, Defensive Holding, 5 yards, enforced at CAR 47 - No Play.
  7. 1-10-CAR 42 (8:22) 28-R.Mendenhall up the middle to CAR 38 for 4 yards (23-M.White).
  8. 2-6-CAR 38 (8:22) 38-A.Ellington left end ran ob at CAR 12 for 26 yards (22-J.Thomas).
  9. 1-10-CAR 12 (7:14) 28-R.Mendenhall up the middle to CAR 7 for 5 yards (58-T.Davis; 99-K.Short).
  10. 2-5-CAR 7 (6:35) 28-R.Mendenhall left end to CAR 1 for 6 yards (41-C.Munnerlyn).
  11. 1-1-CAR 1 (5:52) ARI 76 reported as eligible. 28-R.Mendenhall left tackle for 1 yard, TOUCHDOWN.
  12. 4-J.Feely extra point is GOOD, Center-82-M.Leach, Holder-9-D.Zastudil. PENALTY on CAR, Illegal Formation, 5 yards, enforced between downs.

CAROLINA Gets the Ball...

  1. 4-J.Feely kicks 60 yards from ARI 40 to end zone, Touchback. PENALTY on CAR-57-J.Senn, Personal Foul, 10 yards, enforced between downs.
  2. 1-10-CAR 10 (5:48) 1-C.Newton pass short left to 89-S.Smith to CAR 22 for 12 yards (21-P.Peterson). CAR-66-A.Silatolu was injured during the play. His return is Questionable. PENALTY on CAR-89-S.Smith, Offensive Pass Interference, 5 yards, enforced at CAR 10 - No Play.
  3. 1-15-CAR 5 (5:33) 1-C.Newton sacked in End Zone for -5 yards, SAFETY (93-C.Campbell).

So, let's see... 6 of the 9 penalties for the came were called within the 5 minute and 35 second drive by the Cardinals, and the 20 second drive by the Panthers!

5 minutes and 55 seconds the Panthers were called for 5 penalties 40 yards pretty much given to the Cardinals. Out of those 5 calls, I think maybe 2 were warranted. The rest were judgement calls.

Arizona's 3 calls (all game):  one was illegal formation for 5 yards, roughing the passer for 15 yards, Offensive holding 10 yards.

Now... I know those are all fun happy recaps of flags. But let me also point this out:

Those 3 calls against Arizona, ALL IN THE FIRST HALF! They had not ONE penalty in the second half. Not a one! But, the Panthers had 7 (one was declined) in the second half. (that includes all 5 above)

Arizona has had 26 total flags accepted against them going into this game.
The Panther had 11 total flags accepted against them going into the game.

Not saying a team can't have a bad game. but WOW!

To be honest, when all the flags started flying in the 2nd half of the this game I thought about the Chiefs game last season when they didn't have a flag all game until I think it was the last 3 minutes of the game for a Delay of game.

And yes, I'm bored. it's a slow night at work, and I like numbers.

How quickly you folks forget what Smitty has always and continues to bring to this team. IF FOR ONE SECOND yesterday you blind retards didn't see how blatantly obvious the refs were f'ing us over the entire game then I dont know what the hell you were watching because no poo That ish was ridiculous. It was damn near close to the Dallas game. I'm seriously at a loss for words on what the f those zebras were looking at yesterday but I tell you it was in Arizone red hued glasses thats for sure.

YES the guys made mistakes I definitely understand that but at one point we had 70 rushing yards and yet MORE yards in Penalty's ALONE! Ridiculous. I'm not one to blame stuff on officiating and penalties like this but if anyone needs to be fined it sure as hell isn't Smitty. What Im confused about is you ass's are sitting here calling out Cam while during the game you were calling him the greatest thing since sliced bread and then now calling out Smitty while all season you've been slobbing his knob and yet NOW you are all like FUG CAM Fuuug Smitty they suck. TRADE. CUT. BENCH. YET Don't complain about what the hell was going on with the Refs!? What's sad is it took Smitty making a statement about it to even hear you guys bring it up?

I swear those had to be the replacement refs yesterday and the real refs got drugged raped and kidnapped by the Cardinals the night before because that ish was purely about as unprofessional as I have ever seen since the strike.

I came to the Huddle yesterday JUST to bring up the piss poor calls. I usually hate it when people blame the refs, but Sunday even my blood was boiling at that BS.

This thread has shocked me. I can't believe you idiots are talking about "old" and "Slow" Smitty and how he should retire! Who's going to take his place? LaFail? Who dropped a 4th and 1 pass that hit him in a spot my 5 year old would catch it all day long? How about we support Smitty instead of running your traps like you could do better!

I swear, Zod should make it an instant Perma-Ban if someone is caught trashing the GREATEST FUGGING PANTHER TO EEEEVVEERR PLAY THE GAME!!!

This kind of behavior can only be described as the kind of talk coming from (A) Bandwagon fans or (B) People who are totally oblivious to this team. Take your unwanted comments and post them in an ESPN article with the rest of the trash!

You guys sound pathetic......when smith was making ridiculous catches in double coverage everyone loved him now he has ONE bad game in god knows how long and it's Smitty sucks, i'm tired of his mouth, he needs to retire....blah fuggin blah like after every lost grab a pair and man up. Smith still gets separation from cb's no matter the name the difference is we have a guy like Ginn who's getting open more then our number 2 or any wr we've had the last past 3 years just because cam isn't force feeding him to a 100 yards every-game doesn't mean smitty is different from last year it just means more options are open.

89 is getting worse....just a reality.

And he doesn't win the matchups against the good CBs bc he isn't a legit 1 anymore. We force the ball to a 2.

I feel relatively confident that if this season keeps going the way it has, Smitty will retire after this season. He's already said he had enough money, he just wants success. If we go into full on rebuild mode (again for the 2nd time in 4 years) he probably won't have faith we'll have the team competitive before he can't play any more. And I wouldn't blame him, it'd be a damn shame if he retires out of a feeling of hopelessness rather than accomplishment.

I said it before the season....odds are high this is his last year.

Maybe he retires maybe he doesn't have a place in a legit rebuild. I don't think he needs to be part is a rebuild..... locker room needs to change

I definetely saw it Sunday regarding horrible officiating.  I usually think its homerism as well, but its starting to become a trend.  This isnt why we are losing games, but its certainly not helping.

I remember seeing Smitty held, grabbed, pulled Sunday all game long and it was never called.  Sure he should have caught those 2 passes he dropped, but its just terrible when Smitty gets held all game long, then when he does one thing wrong, its a penalty.

Just gotta do what we did to the Giants and just come out on fire and not look back.  Lets not give the refs a chance to screw us over.

Watch any top CB play against a WR that can't beat them....they grab and do poo.

89 use to be at that junk.....he can't now so he focus on it.

Go back the last 2 years and look at his games against the top CBs. He doesn't do anything against them

Talib, Sherman, Champ, etc. They win the matchup. Smitty wins when there isn't a top CB bc he is an upper tier 2

At 34, he'd probably be the first to tell you he's an upper tier 2.  Few are saying he's still a top 5 WR.  He's been saying the same thing himself for a few years.  I think that's what he's saying when he says he wants the team to bring in a replacement for him.  His ego won't allow him to say "I'm not elite anymore and that's why you need to find someone to be a #1 so I can be a #2", but I bet subconsciously that's what he feels.  He still has plenty to contribute to this team, but his role needs to change and so far it hasn't.  We speculated before the season about how good it'd be if he could play the slot and have others playing the flanker positions.  We aren't seeing that put into the gameplan.

I disagree besides the SEA game even the announcers were talking about how he got good separation running his signature dig route, and i don't think we force the ball to anyone really and at his current rate smith is averaging 50 yards a game i believe which is still good if he manages a couple of 100yd games this season he will be right were he was last year which is not elitle #1 numbers but still good for a #1. Only Cb i see that will give him the most trouble is Revis and Talib but that would be a given.
