Sad Trend: Steve Smith Hinders Our Offense.

Some of you have really gone off the deep end, One bad game and it's trade everyone on the fuggin team get a fuggin grip. I wonder if these are the same people who said smith was done after 2010, the man still has it at 34, your paying to much attention to his age instead of his actually play. Smith is not going to take a drag or slant to the house but he is going to get constant separation no matter the cb(besides the very few elite). Smith is still a number 1 but he does need a replacement to be drafted this upcoming year

Ok, let me be clear with this before you idiots' heads explode. Steve Smith is the greateset panther to ever play and one of the best WRs to ever play the game. Yes he STILL is our best option...

But..

The game against Arizona got me thinking a lot over the passed 20 or so hours. First and foremost, the lack of progression in the play calling hurts our offense the most. Its like we are calling plays we have no matter what with no adjustment to defensive looks or trends. The offensive line being unable to protect fuels this fire. Now on to Smitty...

Steve Smith, 34, has obviously lost his step he once had, and it seems hes more reluctant to go up and get a ball if its not thrown in the right spot. In otherwords, hes making Cam do all the work when last year and 2 years ago, you saw him going up and snagging the ball like weve seen him do his whole career. I realize that there is less designed plays that would call for that situation, but when it does arise, you can tell something is off with Smitty. Why i think he hinders our offense is because he still demands touches like he is the same player he was in his prime. This is forcing the offense and cam to force throws/plays just to "keep him happy".

I get that we have no better option, but this is a big eye opener into just how important it is to have a face of the franchise type of WR.

I love me some Smitty, i love his tenacity, i love his passion for the game, and i still love what he brings to the table, its just time to start looking at this in a realistic light. Hes at a point in his career when he should be a slot receiver with two better/younger outside receivers.

What once was.

Great post. I've been waiting for someone to state this. I agree 100%.

Your guys blinders about the QB's current play has you throwing everybody in sight under the bus, JUST to save face for you and Newton.

If every QB in the league had 4 all star receivers, perfect Oline, and the best coaches in history, each team would score 60 per game.  But, every team has it's issues.  Brady is dealing with walk ons currently and just now got beat.  As has been said here many times, the QB will make the WR, not the other way around.  Manning made many receivers look good, but when they went elsewhere, no such luck.  Speaking of Luck, he is making some guys look forward to their next contract or FA.  Wilson doing the same.

No QB has a perfect situation.  The big boys make things happen.  So far, Newton has disappointed most of the time with an occasional flash to keep his posse placated.  I have lost most of the hope of getting above .500 for the foreseeable future.

Face it, Panther fans are perpetual draftniks

Im not saying we should have an allstar at every position. Im saying we just need a true relevant #1 WR, and should have been planning for the end of Smittys career which everyone seems to agree with.

New England has had the same QB/Coach combo for years now and they run a system and they run it very efficiently. In a west coast offense you dont need those flashy players, you just need chain movers and reliable catchers. They beat you systematically and not by force.

    • Cam is the GOAT dual threat, but we've never been able to have back to back seasons with winning records despite the late season surge winning streaks, my favorite being the year we won the south in the 2nd half of the season. But winning 2 games late in the year against bad teams doesn't establish a "winning culture"  If they beat the Falcons bucs once, competitive against the chiefs and eagles i will have no problem with wins then because it's against legitimate competition but beating the giants and saints just to feel good, hard pass.
