Sad Trend: Steve Smith Hinders Our Offense.

Threads like this cause cancer. Dumbass comments about Steves replacement like that would help Steve catch easy passes to his hands only worsen the thread. The huddle is a whiny bitch after losses. Can't blame the fan base though. The team is mediocre at best at this moment. Winning cures everything, here is hoping a winning streak is in the horizon, if only to keep threads like these from being made.

Yeah, why would we want a talented receiver that can actually run a route, get open, and catch a pass. That's crazy talk.

He was being covered by one of the best ATHLETES in the game first off. Cam seemed to always throw to Steve too high, he is small. He is the only WR worry about, because our others do not make big plays, Ginn is a good add and I like to see him get to run his routes. We really need another hot shot reciever. I think steve would go OFF he if wasnt the only option. He dropped a easy pass at Ari but the whole team had their mistakes. I do not think steve is done and its silly to put this.. if we didnt have him there would seriously just be Olsen and our RB who can catch. If we had a Brandon Marshall on the outside..... can you imagine?

Last season Smitty was 12th in receiving yards, 9th in Average per catch and 9th in catches over 20 yards.

Those are very solid # 1 receiver numbers. He had a couple of drops yesterday. Happens. Yesterday it happened at some really bad times, but every receiver drops passes.

Smith is still a top 10 receiver in the NFL

To suggest he is not a legitimate # 1 receiver is ludicrous.

There are at least 20 NFL teams who would love to have Steve Smith as their number 1 wide-out on any given Sunday.

Zod can cover Steve at this point. He has no explosiveness anymore... no burst off the line of scrimmage. We should have been focusing on WR 2 seasons ago

I don't think Smith is a top 10 receiver in the NFL anymore.  I hope he proves me wrong, but I think he's moved to a point in his career where we can't rely on him like that.

Smitty is awesome, but it's time we accept that we absolutely need to find a #1 receiver.

LOL...so how did he put up those stellar numbers last year? And the year before that? Smitty is not as explosive as he once was, but he is still a very legit # 1 receiver.

I guess maybe we should get Calvin Johnson as our number 1,

Dez Bryant as our number 2,

Wes Welker in the slot

And we could add Victor Cruz to use in 4 receiver sets...

perhaps we would then have the WR talent to succeed.

come on.  Smith's production started to drop near the end of last year, even, and he's usually hot early and that hasn't been the case this year.  He's started off real rocky so far in terms of getting open and producing..

He's getting older.  Father time can't be outrun forever.  It's not like Smitty is some decrepit old fool, he's still a good receiver, but he needs help and we're not really giving him it.  Ginn and Olsen are both secondary targets, at least with how they are used in this offense.

Key word

Last

Year

A brand new season. Brand new sitting off during off-season. New age. Brand new training camp. S.S should be delegated to slot only. Quickness, speed, acceleration is one thing... he's also been dropping more passes than in the past too. It sucks for us, but Im not trying to take a crap on him, but you can't play at an extremely high level forever. We all knew this day was coming. ALL of us except this ownership and management. Organizations with success know when to move on

Thats Newtons problem, not Smith's.

That first drive was as good of a drive Cam has had his entire career. Should've been 6/6 for 73 yards and a touchdown. Give me a break from this Newton sucks and if you disagree you are a nuthugger poo.

You all cannot take a step back, stop sipping the ESPN haterade, and look objectively at the situation at hand. Our offense, to put nicely, is a nightmare. Shula opens up the play book one week and plays scared the next. He was afraid to call the easy play. Where were the screens. Screen left screen right bootleg screen back across, tight end screens. I'd call that all day if they want to rush 6 drop 3 deep and keep 2 in the middle. Our entire offense would've been set up to block the 5 remaining guys.

Shula is crap and his ineptitude in beating the blitz showed against Baltimore. Many of us chalked it up to preseason. This game tells me it was not an anomaly but a force of habit. He hung up Cam like a wet rug waiting to be beaten by continuing to call 30 yard post routes.

To get that post on topic, it's not Smiths job to jump 30 yards, and it's not cams job to throw and catch the touchdown and 4th down passes.

Everyone is at fault for this game and we forced Cam to play against an impossible gameplan without taking what the defense is giving us.

Cam said in his press conference that we can't let their defense impose their will, we have to impose ours.

That in itself shows how the offense is going to be run. However, I don't expect to see no adjustments and play with what they are giving us. Good opening game plan but the flow of the game caught up to Shula and he got scared.

    • Cam is the GOAT dual threat, but we've never been able to have back to back seasons with winning records despite the late season surge winning streaks, my favorite being the year we won the south in the 2nd half of the season. But winning 2 games late in the year against bad teams doesn't establish a "winning culture"  If they beat the Falcons bucs once, competitive against the chiefs and eagles i will have no problem with wins then because it's against legitimate competition but beating the giants and saints just to feel good, hard pass.
