Silatolu Out for Season - ACL

Oh wow. That certainly doesn't make things easier for us. Can't catch a break here in Carolina. Similar to Jags, they just lost Joeckel. When it rains it pours. I still believe in Gettleman and I trust his judgements whatever they may be in the future. Without those D drafts he recently did we'd have a horrible situation in our defense with that backfield. I'm excited for the next draft and what he'll pick for our offense. Lord knows he cannot ignore it this time.

Ugh. Panther football excitement = counting down the days to the next Draft.

Jesus Titty-fuging Christ guys... How dense are you people? This isn't all on Gettleman:

WE HAD NO MONEY THIS OFFSEASON

Get that through your thick retarded heads. My God... He did what he could with what he had, which was absolutely nothing, and he managed to give us a bunch of money for the future while dumping old and worthless players and their old and worthless contracts.

And even though we didn't sign any other lineman this offseason, whose to say he didn't try? We could have sent offers to a number of proven vets who turned us down because they didn't want to play for pennies (the only thing we could offer) or they didn't want to play for the team. Remember Last year when it came out that Jacoby Jones almost signed with us until he visited the Ravens and fell in love? It could have been the same poo different year. As far as I'm concerned Gettleman gets a free pass this year because he was instructed not to let Rivera go and he had to start cleaning up the mess that was Marty Hurney. Truth be told, he did a HELL of a lot more than I thought he would.

Um, yes we did. Something along the lines of $12 million or so.

You can sign any good player in the league (not elite) for a cap charge of 2 to 5 million. Flacco's monster contract carries a cap hit this year of 6 million.

Yes, I know there are challenges going forward (like Beason's 8 mil in dead money) but the NFL is about winning now, not 3 years from now. Teams go from bad to good overnight. There is no reason we as fans should excuse the ineptitude of this organization.

We could have brought in a couple of mid-range OL for maybe 4 million in cap space and been in much better shape. Gettleman doesn't get a pass on this.

Damn, bad news. Oh well our season is lost anyway.

Yea Gettleman is at fault for not doing something for the line. We had plenty of money to bring in 2 or 3 decent linemen, but he chose to do nothing. I suspect it was because he wanted to save some money just in case since he was still evaluating the team. That's the only reason I can think of.

Like I said, whose to say he didn't try? Whose to say that he didn't offer them a contract and it was rejected. You are incredibly short sighted on your outlook on our cap situation. By freeing up all this money this year, we plan on rolling it over to next year so that we can kill some of the dead money and hopefully sign some decent players. By wasting it all this year, we would have, yet again, screwed ourselves in the long run in cap.

I'm glad we didn't spend every available penny on medicore free agents. Ron is done. Gman knows this. Save it for next year.

Word too that Greg Olsen is in a walking boot.

That would be a kick in the nuts ... one of the 3 worst injuries we could have.

Silatolu was getting better and I hate this for him.  However, there is no dropoff with Wharton.  We need to add another OL for depth.

No one was talking about "wasting it all". I was not advocating we sign a top tier FA, just someone capable and experienced.

Gettleman moved the cap by about $30 million dollars this offseason. I trust between him and Rob Rogers there is a solid plan looking out 3 to 5 years. If there isn't, they aren't doing their jobs.

Spending maybe 4 million in cap space was entirely do-able. Gettleman chose to stand pat.

If Gettleman didn't spend money because he is saving it for the post-Rivera era, having already decided we weren't going to win with Ron, then he shouldn't have taken the job. He knew Ron was part of the bargain coming in, and it is part of his responsibility to have the pieces in place to give us a fighting chance.
