Send in the Clowney

So the governing dynamics of the Panthers is set for a big change next year.  GMAN has been hoarding cap change.  We're not a good team this year for whatever reason (coaching, wr's, playcalling, general inconsistency).  We have a ton of expiring contracts.   Lord knows over half our team is going to be different next year.   Cam Newton, regardless of what anyone says, is not easily replaceable.  At least not with the crop of QBs  that will be at our disposal next year.    Hardy is wanting a mega deal.  It's debatable on whether or not he's earned that kind of money.

Good news.

If it just so happens that we maintain our trajectory of eating poo on game days (which sucks).   We might be in position to nab Clowney and let Hardy walk.  We'd have so much more cap space to handle all the contracts, and maybe shore up our offense.

If we do suck for the rest of the year, I say let Hardy walk and send in the Clowney.

Clowney is starting to become a diva big time.  Dude is buying into the myth of his own legend.  Great prospect no doubt, but if we don't draft an OT or a WR in the 1st round next year, I'm gonna lose my mind.  We've been investing a ton into building the front seven of our defense while trying to rely on an over the hill formerly elite LT, an undrafted FA RT, and an over the hill formerly elite #1 WR surrounded by a bunch of also rans.  It's time to invest in protection and weapons for the QB we drafted #1 overall.  It's time to stop pretending like simply having Cam Newton on the roster is all we need to field an offense that can win games in the NFL.

Can he play OL and DB?  If not, gtfo.

That's my new dream pick for our 1st rounder.  Someone who can be both a franchise LOT and shutdown corner.  Make it happen Dave!

I new LT isn't gonna do much if we don't address the sorry ass right side of our OL and add a weapon or two at WR.  A shutdown CB would be nice, but as I see our needs...

1a. WR

1b. OT

2. RG (assuming Kugzilla isn't seen as the long-term solution here)

    • KC has a very good defense this year. It is 5th overall. Yes, still worse than last year, but their offense is considerably worse. Their passing D may be their "weakness" but they still allow fewer than 20 ppg. BY completed several deep passes yesterday, and he was able to threaten downfield in ways he didn't seem capable of before the benching. I'm not necessarily worried about his ability to connect deep anymore. What to me was impressive was that he did all this without a run game. We used the pass to set up what little running success we had. Wild.
    • Solid and fair assessment.   I will say, one of the big things I noticed yesterday was that he wasn't shy to step up into the pocket in the face of pressure.  He's trusting the IOL.  And they took care of Chris Jones yesterday.  We had clean pockets but also good success rate vs. pressure which just hasn't been the case with Bryce.   If he has more confidence the OL gets it done and he can navigate and step up for throws, that's huge.  It's one of the biggest things that's held him back.  He was previously bailing quickly and just too easily throwing away or making dead plays.     He was finding his 2nd to 3rd reads within structure/without bailing in the pocket.  That was nice to see, as much concern I have with him.  And the overall limitations will always be there. Time to back it up this week against the Bucs.
    • Suddenly the Cowgirls look like our best chance for a win remaining. I think the Bucs are playing better than the Falcons of late.  Our lone game versus the dirty birds is in the ATL where we always struggle.  The Cardinals are marginally better than I thought they would be. We are not beating the Eagles, they are starting to roll. I'm saying two at most, next week at home versus the Bucs and the Cowgirls.
