Just to address this narrative, most young QBs don't consisty get better week to week or year to year until around season 4 or usually 5.

It is s progress of fits and starts.

Cam is no different and he shouldn't be expected to progress faster than other QBs in NFL history.

He is on a good trajectory. But you still have to be patient as an organization and support him and protect him

The only reason we arent patient is because of what Luck, Wilson and Kapernick are doin.

I still wouldn't trade Cam for any of them. Luck (while good) was second in the league in turnovers last year and has simply gotten some breaks as well (ex. 178 yards vs the Raiders and the Raiders having first and goal at the end of the game and throwing a pick to lose it. With Cam (Buffalo, Atlanta last year) they throw for a TD).

Cam leads the league in TDs since he's arrived in the league. Wilson and Kaepernick simply have better situations from coaching to personnel.

If Andy Reid and Alex Smith say anything...it's that a QB and a head coach can turn a bottom feeder into a winner in a hurry.

i'm not worried about cam at all.

 

i'm worried about literally everything else. will our new coach keep cam? is gettleman competent enough to build a respectable team/coaching staff? will our studs stay with us (cam, hardy, kuechly, etc.)? the list goes on and on. right now we are cap-fuged from several absurd contracts. we won't be COMPLETELY out of that hole for another 2-3 years.

 

cam has improved, if you actually watch him play that much is clear. our offense has gotten worse, mainly because of age and scheme. as much as it pains me to say; smith is old, and is probably getting too much money for what he's doing on the field. gross is old, kalil is a beast and the rest of our OL is either young (silatolu) or straight up trash (bell, other rotating guard).

 

our defense is good enough, we've entered the last two drafts with our primary focus being defense and we've nailed them with landing kuechly and star. it's time to focus on the offense, we desperately need a #1 receiver now because smith is not that. obviously OL is a need too, and it should be a focus every year regardless of other needs. unfortunately, OL has been largely ignored.

 

i'll admit, i thought we were going to be much better this year and i suppose i overrated our receiving core and OL. it comes down to this: cam is not a peyton manning or a tom brady, he is very much so his own player, completely unprecedented. trent dilfer said it best; cam is not a surgeon, and i'm not sure he ever will be, but he doesn't need to be thanks to his other skills. manning is capable of working with sub-par O-lines (see his time in indy) and brady is capable of working with shitty receivers (ala this year). cam shouldn't ever run a pure pro-style offense or anything close to that really. he needs to run wild and take risks, that's when he's at his best.
