Stopping Newton - The Word is Out

after watching Manning and Romo go at it yesterday, it obvious to me that Cam will always be a gimmick qb. He is not a pro style qb and will never be accurate on deep passes. I dont think Cam can get us to the Super Bowl. Its not his fault, hes doing what he is capable of doing.

Lmao romo? A QB that has been to the playoffs maybe twice and who has always had talent on both sides of the field...u are the gimmick and ur absolutely right he is doing what he is capable of

cam is the greatest athlete in the history of sports if he's "coasted on athletic talent" so far or whatever the half-cocked argument du jour is among the mouth breathers at the moment.  there was nothing gimmicky about the first drive-you saw a quarterback scanning the field and throwing lasers with pinpoint accuracy like a ten year pro.  then the adjustments by the cardinals came, then there were no counter-adjustments made, and a tsunami of mistakes was the result.

manning wasn't truly the manning we know now (passing for a million yards with an outrageous TD:INT ratio every single season like clockwork) until at or around the 2003 season, his sixth as a pro.  he "regressed" to something resembling his rookie form in his fourth season with 23 INTs.  he's actually playing probably the best he ever has right now, so i don't buy this bullshit that seems to be commonly bandied about that all a quarterback will ever be is on full display in his third season.  somebody should tell drew brees.

everybody here including me hates the fuging cowboys but romo is a damn good quarterback and i also fail to see how comparing cam to him is supposed to be some kind of insult.

Great post.

As an outside I will say it again, Teams don't just focus on QBs. They focus on the team as a whole and their weaknesses. Sure a new QB will surprise them because they new but after a couple of games there are tapes on that person. That is not the Panthers problem When the Panthers fix their weakness or learn to adjust more quickly to them, outside of relying on Cam, u will start seeing wins. It's not rocket scientist stuff.

From what I see week in and out, Cam is playing as good as any of the top young QBs. The problem is, his team isn't playing like the top teams out there.

It's the same ole same ole.

The Panthers can make neither offense or defensive adjustments during the second half of games.

Nothing new here. Anyone that thought "Rivera crossed the threshold" was smoking something.

Cajones is only one of the things Rivera lacks. I could think of about 5-6 more things that he struggles with as a Head Coach.

Oh well, at least he appears to be gone for sure now, albeit at the expense of another Panther season.

Until the owner gets tired of being a laughing stock of a franchise and sees empty seats, beer not being sold, money not being made,

none of this will change.

With each passing game, it is absolutely obvious this team needs to be blown up. It is obvious that our 'core' players are

also questionable.

The reality of the Panthers are there are probably 5 players that other top quality teams would be interested in and I dobut when

the coaching staff is blown up that many of those will be picked up either.

The Panthers are the KMart of the NFL...the original blue light special and until they decide to step up in class the fans will get

what we have always got.

As a PSL holder, I'm sick of. Sick enough to not complain about it anymore. Sick enough to see what they do this offseason and if it is not a whole sale blow-up and start over similar to what is done in KC, I am truly done throwing $4200 a year on tickets away.

Please stop advocating that not showing up.to home games is the answer. That is dumb.

***Warning crazy rant*** ***If you want to read something nice and sane, then don't read this***

I would fire GM David Gettleman in an instant for this sorry ass o-line. Gettleman sounds like an over the hill dumbass who should never speak in public with that horrific gutter accent. The man can't control his weight, he's 2 years away from a massive heart attack (look at his hanging gunt) and he hung around long enough in the league to latch on to a loser franchise for his big payday. Fire him. Good lord the mistakes. We drafted a project OG, and brought in Wharton, whose pass blocking is the worst I've ever seen at this point in his career. Our own fans were predicting that Kubila would be injury prone and a liability before his recent injuries. Our fans here on the damn huddle were calling it. I've had it. Get rid of him. We had plenty of options for fixing the o-line. Gettleman and RR failed. I would dump them with a quickness. No free pass for loser Gettleman because he's new. Bring in a winner who is sought after and on the rise, not a lummox who hung around and no one wanted to promote. Look where that got us. Look at our team. Gettleman wtf were you thinking? Terrible o-line. Cam is very likely to have serious injury this season. Get a winner on the rise, and watch this o-line get fixed. That means drafting PROVEN RELIABLE o-lineman, and spending REAL MONEY on o-line FAs, not tanking a season with losers and soon to be IR bench warmers. JR stop counting your socialized NFL profit sharing money and fire Gettleman and clean house. Stop sticking with losers because they have a contract and you're obsessed with money. BOA is going to be completely empty of Panther fans, and as a man (probably more of an old lady at this point) you're pride is on the line. If you want a winning legacy, then it starts by telling the losers to hit the bricks. Gettleman, Captain, Shula, coaches, FO, players, start dumping them out into the world and watch how quickly no one ever hears from them again.

First things first.

The NFL is an organic entity. It evolves. Coaching staffs look for weaknesses to exploit. They do so until those particular weaknesses no longer remain. Then they search for another. This is how it has always been.

Once a team finds a weakness, you can expect others to follow suit. It is a guarantee.

Going into the the Cardinals game, Cam Newton was being rushed by at least 5 defenders a league high 44% of the time. Newton, protected by a patchwork offensive line, saw more pressure than any other quarterback in the league.

How did Arizona use this information? They doubled down, and the league was watching.

Arizona rushed at least 5 defenders 60% of the total snaps. The result? Seven sacks, three interceptions, six points. The word is out, pressure Cam Newton and the Panthers offense will have no answers.

This is not to say that Cam Newton is totally to blame. GM David Gettleman could have provided a better offensive line to protect him. Ron Rivera could have urged Mike Shula to find a way to get the ball out more quickly. Mike Shula could have anticipated the pressure and developed a counter strategy. The Offensive line could play with more heart and better communication.

The blame can be spread around quite easily.

It is now up to Mike Shula to realize that teams will be be bringing more pressure than ever before. It is up to him to counter the strategy with plays that quickly develop and make the defense second guess their approach. Can we expect to see more screens, draws, and hot routes? We can only hope.

In short, Cam Newton can be a franchise player in this league, but not on his own. So far this season his team has let him down.

Is this really about stopping "Newton" or simply stopping the Panthers offense and the horrid coaching?

Panthers Game Plan Strategy:

1) Spend all week working up an offensive and defensive strategy that a) doesn't fit our players and A )does not fully exploit the weaknesses of the other team

2) distribute this info to the team in a "hey guys, could you please listen, this is important" kind of way.

3) Watch opponent, having anticipated this obvious strategy, begin to kick our teeth in.

4) (most important step here)  DO ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO ADJUST IN GAME.  NOTHING, NOT A DAMN THING.

you are comparing a third year, raw prospect of a QB to arguably the greatest QB of all time and a guy people have been giving crap for the past 5 years for not playing well when it counts. Both in their mid to late 30's with tons of experience in the game... That's a bit hyperbolic to claim at this stage in his career...

Apples and Oranges dude...

Amen some people on this board like the media love bashing Can no matter if they sound ridiculous or not. FYI both Manning and Romo had 1 less pick than Cam and Dallas had just as many penalties, yet put up 48 points to our 6. Totally Newtons faut though.

Cam still has more time to prove that he can play at a high level consistently. He has the rest of this season, next season, and possibly one more season after that. Cam is making mistakes along with the rest of the team. The mistakes pop up and spread throughout the team. Close your eyes and point at the offensive roster, and there you just found someone to blame.

What gives you the right to call anyone's opinion  'dumb'?

Please explain that.

The NFL is a business as your buddy says 'simple and plain'.

Its how I feel.

If you don't like it, don't read it.

When you cough up $4200+ a year, vs. sitting home on your comfortable sofa, you might feel the same way.

PSL's make many things possible for sorry ass teams.  Turning them in, with people not buying them, stops it.

If you think JR is not attuned to the bottom line, you are the one with the 'dumb' opinion.

Cam just doesn't have what it takes. He has a mess around him yes, but man.... he doesn't have it He's close but just.... You really think we can win a super bowl with this guy?

I look at that guy in Indy and already know he's got super bowl in his future. With Cam I can't believe it.

The 5th season is not really an option.  If we exercised it, we would have to pay him in excess of $20M for one season (avg of top 5 QG salaries).

Gettleman is not that stupid.

My biggest questions is this....will many of the idiots on this board leave when Cam is shown the door after next season?  Or, are they truly Panther fans?
