The fact that we've pretty much had a different offense in all three of his seasons here has a lot to do with his lack of progression.  Our staff seems like they have no clue how they want to utilize him.  Last year, Chud went all cutesy nuts and at times looked like he was trying to run a 90s style Nebraska triple option.  This year, we're asking Cam Newton to run a traditional drop back offense with a patchwork OL and a below average WR corps.

 

Cam isn't perfect by any means, but at least half the GMs would trade their QB for him right now straight up.  There's probably not a single GM in the league who'd take Rivera as their head coach and he'll find that out when we fire him.

In 36 career starts, Cam has had 9 games in which he had a QB rating of less than 70.  That's 1 in every 4 starts.  We are 1-8 in those games.  If that doesn't concern you than you are delusional. 

 

 

brady had 15 games below 70 QB rating in his first 3 years as a starter, with 11 of those coming in his first 2 (lol superbowl) - and that was after sitting a year.

 

cam isn't brady.  but just as importantly, the panthers are NOT the patriots.

I'm mainly just frustrated with this entire franchise.  

 

We tanked for Luck (it's hard to deny that) and he decided to stay in school so we settled for Cam.  In the tank season, we completely screwed over John Fox and embarrassed him.  After he left he took over the 2nd worst team in the league.  He had that team (lead by Tim fuggin The Golden Calf of Bristol) in the playoffs year one.  Now they are the best team in the league. 

 

The following season Luck comes out, gets drafted by the worst team in the league, and leads them to the playoffs.  He did it with absolute poop weapons.

 

This past offseason we watch Chud leave for a HC position.  All the fans rejoiced, including myself, and the players trashed him.  He now has the Browns (yes, the Browns) at 3-2.

Chud may have the Browns at 3-2 but he has Norv as his OC.  We could have had Norv for our OC.  But we weren't willing to pay him what he deserved, I bet.

 

It had nothing to do with us having Cam.

 

Cam is a good QB.  I'm happy with him.  I want him to improve, and I think he will, but we need a staff to utilize him.

You're starting to come to grips with the fact that we have an organizational issue that's bigger than any GM, coach, or player.  It took me awhile too.

I really hope we build a solid offense around Cam this offseason.  Even though I think he is just average, I do think he is good enough to win with the right amount of help.  Elite QBs are hard to find....that's why they are called elite.  It just sucks that we only got an average QB with the #1 overall pick.

I think Cam is a top 10 QB if:

 

A. He gets some O-line help

 

B. He gets some actual receiving weapons

 

and most importantly

 

C. Our coaches actually gameplan around him and our offensive playcalling isn't hot garbage

Pryor looks better tonight than he EVER looked at OSU. He never looked like an NFL QB prospect while at OSU IMO. The Raisers' staff has done a helluva job with this kid. Then again, we'll see how he looks as NFL DCs get more tape on him. Still though, I stand by the statement that he looks better as a QB now than he ever did in college.
