I have never once said anything negative about Cam Newton, but...

This thread didn't disappoint. You have both sides, the cam protectors and the cam bashers taking their stand.

What we don't have are people in the middle who realize that our QB is not getting better due to our oline, coaching, receivers, and yes....himself.

Well stated. The whole offense is to blame, WR, OL, QB, OC included.

Four pages deep, but here's my two cents ...

Cam is not elite. Period. He's good, and at times very good. But he's not great. Championships can be won by good QBs, but a dynasty is built around an elite QB. But he's not going anywhere. He's our guy. Better than Jake. But not even a Top 10 QB in the NFL. He falls just outside that list.

It is what it is.

Better than Jake, except we actually had winning seasons under Jake and a Super Bowl appearance. Jake was clutch. Cam still is in his third year.

Then why did Andrew Luck need more pass attempts to break the record? Why didn't any of the other young qbs also break the record? And by the way he broke Peytons record on less attempts......dumbass

Luck and Peyton win. I can't believe we compare Cam to QBs that actually win games. The Huddle is great at making excuses time after time for Cam's bad play

Look we better hope Cam works out because it is hard to continue to try and draft a qb over and over, That rarely works out. Truth is no one that isn't in that locker room knows 100% who was wrong on each bad play. Now on to a few thoughts about cam today.

Announcers say cam flips/audibles 70% of our plays. I really believe this to be false because if it is true he really is lost on reading the defense.

7 sacks can be because of multiple things - cam not checking to hot read, bad pre snap read, bad blocking, holding the ball to long and receivers not getting open. Really this game probably had a little bit of all of this.

Cam makes it is easy for detractors to have ammunition. Just watch objectively on both sides.

*When the pocket gets dirty he still gets sloppy footwork and holds the ball to low(Fixable or should be)-See first pick

*Stares down receivers(fixable with time)-See second pick.

*Holds ball to long trying to make a play(Fixable with coaching)-See two sacks today.

Now Cam does have some unique talents

*Awesome arm strength- On display most of the first half

*One of the best athletes to come into football in many years- seen multiple times today

Look if he can fix at least the footwork and staring down the receivers he could take us to the playoffs. Bad thing is that most QB's in year 3 are becoming who they will always be. It gets harder to fix some of the bad habits that have formed. Yes there are QB's that have done it but they are out numbered by 10-1 to those who don't.

Again Cam is once in a lifetime athlete so he will get more chances than most, if not here somewhere. He shouldn't have all the blame on him but should share some. Lets just hope the next coach here can take him to the next level.

OLine needs major help. Need better WR. Don't be dumb & think Cam is a lock to be are franchise QB. Still hangs onto the ball to long & slow through his reads. Gettleman believes in pocket QBs a stout defense & solid OLine. Cam is not safe & shouldn't be which would make the 2011 draft such a huge waste. Love what GMan is doing so far.

here's the deal

if it's week 16 and Cam has played as lousy as he did today, then sure, he's not safe

but the relaity is this:

cam has a terrible OL.  pretty bad receivers. terrible coaching.

and he's 24.  he's still fuging young.  no, he's not manning.  the reality is he isn't looking good but honestly luck/wilson/whatever young gun you could want would probably look like hot poo behind this OL and OC as well.

Shula's biggest issue is that he can not fuging adjust and it's obvious that the offense suffers because of it

He looked like a HOF QB until the Cards started blitzing.

Then he looked BAD. Really Really Bad.

The quick decisions , the decisiveness, were gone.

And what you got was a 6 foot 5, 250 pound statue.

The majority of the sacks in this game belong to Newton.

Announcers said today he audibles a lot. He has more control than ever.

I didn't hear that, and I'm not disputing it, but I just don't see it.

Usually when a QB audibles, some very noticeable things happen - players shift or move, WRs look in and check with the QB or other players for the call, OL turn to one another, etc. I don't ever see that. I see Cam huddle up, players line up, we get set with less than 15 seconds on the playclock, usually a lot less, and then we snap it with about 3 seconds or less left on the playclock.

That doesn't sound like he is making audibles.

Furthermore, when things like Washington's INT happen without him even looking before the throw , that tells me he is going with what is being called and trusting that it will work. Ron Jaworski recently discussed Hiuston's problems offensively, and he said that was a huge reason they were having problems. He doesn't call audibles either and Sherman's INT to end the game last week was a result of it.
