I have never once said anything negative about Cam Newton, but...

exact same.  he's my favorite player, i've supported him from day one but i'm beginning to get concerned.  good news is he'll get at least another year or two to silence critics, and hopefully we'll give him a good o-line and wr core in that span then we'll see what he's made of

If SMF is making threads like this...

Btw, I disagree on Cam. I can't see any QB doing better than what he did with this OL today with his top 2 receivers dropping passes for TDs and first downs

He came up so so short on those first two picks though. He's constantly failing to read what linebackers are doing. And he's the worst 4th quarter QB in the league. Not one person on this site thought he would be able to score a TD when we were down 12-6, not one of you.

...I'm finally starting to believe he's not the answer at quarterback. Yes, his receivers were awful today, one of their worst performances ever. Yes, the o-line was putrid. But Cam cannot get rid of the ball to save his life. He's always good for at least a couple Clausenesque throws a game, has to lead the league in his career in most picks dropped by defenders because of his rocket arm.

I was the one that posted the first big thread about how I wanted Cam before the draft, the first credible poster to do so. And now I'm saying it: Dave Gettleman should not extend Cam's contract and let him go after it expires. I don't see it working here.

Oh yeah and fug Ron Rivera. That is all.

Read that and shut the hell up

Bingo! We don't have a Peyton Manning. We have a gunslinger who will have games like these every now and then. Live by the sword, die by the sword. We gotta build an actual offense around him and hire a coach to mask his deficiencies. Cam will probably never be elite but we can still win with him.

Can we though? Look at the QBs that have won Super Bowls in the past decade, ALL of them have played elite, otherworldly football in the playoffs, in crunch time. Cam can't do any of that; I don't see it changing even with a better coach. There are so many mental things going on in his head with folding under pressure and not getting rid of the ball fast enough.

Some of you guys are ridiculous.

Cam always shares in the blame when the offense struggles and he should.

But he isn't being put in the best position to succeed. Drops, bad o line play, wrs having difficulty getting open etc etc.

There will perhaps come a time where he can overcome those obstacles. But not by his 20th game with little college experience.

He is fine. Certainly not the problem, but he is also not so good he can mask all of the other offensive deficiencies.

Cam Newton needs an offensive minded coach....either HC or a great OC.

His potential oozes out his ears and is incredibly young. How many HOFers weren't winners 2 years and a quarter in to their careers

He is big play QB with no big play WR....that is the first part of the puzzle

Good quarterbacks can get hot and win a Super Bowl. See Manning, Eli and Flacco, Joe.

Neither is elite, and Flacco might not even be top 15.

Good quarterbacks win anyway, especially when all we needed was 13 points. Good quarterbacks can will teams that are struggling to 13 points, when playing against opposing QBs that throw 3 picks.

DISCLAIMER: I am not comparing Cam to the QB mentioned in this post.

But.... Tom Brady couldn't do it today and he is one if the best ever.

Even good QBs like that can't mask all offensive deficiencies.

We certainly can't expect Cam to that yet. Perhaps not ever. But Cam isn't the problem.

Flacco played at a Peyton Manning level in last year's playoffs. I don't see Cam ever taking a team to the playoffs, much less turning into the best quarterback of the 12 teams that make it in. He will always throw a bad pick or have a terrible 3 and out in 4th quarter crunch time.

Since we haven't been able to see him in the playoffs we don't really know now do we? Look at Eli and Flaco
