Time to put something on Cam

If I signed him to a 100 million dollar contract it wouldn't be for the player he is right now, it would be for the player I envision him becoming in the future.

Just like every other QB that has been inconsistent their first three years as a starter like Peyton, Eli, Big Ben, Brees, or just about any QB not named Tom Brady.

We need to stop putting so much on his shoulders and he needs to stop putting so much on his own shoulders.

But as a fan base and organization we need to temper what we should expect this guy to do right now. We shouldn't need him to carry us. We shouldn't expect him to carry us. We should pit pieces in place for him to share the load and have guys who can make him look better than he is and have him continue to improve to make them.look bette than they are.

I'm not expecting him to carry us.

I'm also not prepared to spend a hundred million dollars on 'potential'.

He finishes the rest of the season looking at least half-decent, I pay him like a good quarterback, but not an elite one.

I'm in favor of giving him another year next season, but if I'm being honest, I'd sign some veteran insurance too.

(Anderson's not good enough to qualify as that)

Even though he didn't have a great game today I think he has proven that he is more than just "potential"

Not saying this specifically about you Scot. But some of you act like he has been a crumb bum for these last few years.

Getting some raggedy vet that no one else wants to back him up isn't going to accomplish anything.

We knew he was going to be a bit of a project when we drafted him. He exceeded everyone's expectations, but that doesn't change the fact that he is still really green as a QB.

The market for him will work itself out, but I imagine he will get a decent contract and we would be foolish to not try and lock him up.

Why the hell does this fan-base have so much expectations! You have no OL, no real #1 WR, no secondary. The only bright spot is QB and a good DL. What makes you think you should win. Come on people, be realistic. Just hope we don't win to many meaningless games so  we can pick up on of those OT or WR.

I wish people would understand IF cam couldn't read defenses he would have been out the league by now. IF cam starred down his receivers why did he complete the ball to more then 6 different guys????? the truth is he's not going to play lights out every game, he had a bad game today but once again that is far from the problem at hand.

either receivers aren't getting open or the plays are too long, i think it's highly improbable that cam would sit in the pocket knowing an all out blitz is coming, or simply because bell is his RT. WTF happen to the run game or screens, we abandon both pretty early

again cam played bad but besides this game he has played good all season and we still were at 1-2, coaching staff need to get it together, second game where our qb got sack 7 times

He's shown plenty of good over the first few seasons.

The bad news: Some of the stuff that should have been corrected by now hasn't been.  Maybe Newton's to blame for that, maybe the coaches.  Sadly, the result is the same either way.

My biggest worry right now is that they've effectively "David Carr'd" him with the O-Line we've stuck him behind.

Season three is a critical season, and a terrible time to stick him behind a poor OL and effectively spend his 'turning point' season reinforcing the bad habits you ought to be breaking.

Again, it may not be fair because it seems pretty clear he's been mishandled, but he wouldn't be the first guy whose coaches cost him his future.  I hope it's not to that point, but it's a real possibility.

Cam needs to lift his team in the classic sense of a team leader. He needs a confidence-arrogance about him compared to his current swag-arrogance. the greatest players of all time, regardless of position were focused/tenacious in their pursuit of success. watch videos of lawerence taylor, walter payton, joe montana, dick butkis, reggie white, jerry rice. their play and focus on winning and imposing their presence on the field. leading by the mentality that if youre a professional football player in this league, it takes personal determination and preparation well beyond those in college and certainly high school. Peyton manning is the perfect embodiment of this.

Cam can be better than peyton manning. his physical capabilities are clearly superior. what separates him is mannings unmatched focus. if cam is losing its on him for not preparing. if cam knew within himself that hes properly prepared to score on every drive, he would be a proactive force on the sideline. the leader would naturally come out of him. Did his receivers drop passes? obviously. but his resolve should never falter. this game was as more winnable than our last loses. A cam filled with conviction would be unmatche

Meanwhile, Cam Newton is on pace to be sacked 60 times this season, and he's the most dynamic running QB in the NFL.

Coaching -- when you are doing it wrong.

What does being a "dynamic running QB" have to do with it? It's not like he's getting sacked on quarterback draw plays or read options. He's responsible for some of the sacks where he stands around in the pocket waiting for 5 seconds before trying to get rid of the ball off his back foot at the last possible moment.

This is spot on and better than I could have said it. Last year it was Chud and Hurney's fault that Cam sucked most of the time.  Now it's Shula/Rivera. Who will it be when they're gone at the end of this year?

There were numerous miscues today for sure. And yes Cam came out confident and with pin point precision. Then early in the 2nd qtr, Buckner and the Cardinals made in-game adjustments and really marginalized Cam. No Cam did not drop a TD pass, Steve Smith did and it was an excellent pass by Cam. No Cam did not drop a sure first down on 4th and 1, Lafell did that on yet another terrific pass from Cam. But here is what Cam did do...

1) Stayed in the pocket and repeatedly held the ball too long.

2) Took (2) ill advised sacks that cost his team points.

#1 - On 3rd down and in FG range he took a horrible sack for a 12 yard loss. Result - Should have chucked the ball on 3rd down.....CATS PUNT

#2 - Can not wait for a play to develop on a pass from the endzone. Result - Should have chucked the ball immediately.....SAFTEY

#3 - Woefully underthrown but determined to throw it to a blanketed Steve Smith (Happens too often).  Result - INTERCEPTION

#4 - Horrible read as he locked onto a blanketed Steve Smith in the endzone. RESULT - KILLER INTERCEPTION

**** Late game errors but the game was essentially over ***

5A - The fumble under heavy pressure!

5B - The end of game pic that sealed a very bad 3 quarters for my QB!

I expect a change of head coach likely this week or shortly. But, I have watched the NFL for 40 years and I think we are seeing an immensely physically gifted athlete that is woefully challenged at being an NFL ready 4th quarter leader. He has improved in certain areas where he was deficient during the past 2.5 years in the NFL. But does anyone feel safe with a small lead in the 4th qtr or coming from behind with Cam in control? I am not throwing Cam under the bus at all. But in the NFL "play for pay" is a results based business not fantasy football. The Cats once again had their routine 4th quarter collapse. No need to blame anyone. But, executives are paid to make the painful decisions. So out goes RR. then comes a new coach. And Cam had damn well better have a heart to heart with himself. Because, Hurney is gone, Chud is gone and soon to be Rivera. Can't peel the onion any further than that ladies and gents.  Once this coach is canned then it is Cam front and center.....

you guys don't get it..........and probably never will. It has been said numerous times there were not wrs open, but yes cam should have gotten rid of the ball and in another way did you ever question it was hard for him to get outside of the pocket to throw it away. He's play good up until this game but one bad game and you guys go fuggin overboard like 12 yr olds, Cam as of now is good enough to get this team to the playoffs but if you want him to take the next step you have got to get him a decent o line and wrs who can get open along with smart play-calling. The reason cam doesn't get full blame is because he doesn't put himself in these situations our OC did a bad job countering what ARZ did.
