Jon Beason Active....

Why are people arguing Beasons worth? He just got traded for a low round pick, so there you have it, he is worth a low round pick.

Gettle took what he could get, nothing more, nothing less and thinking otherwise is just stupid.

It will be interesting to watch. He shined in his first start with NYG and we don't know yet what a low round pick is. Is it a 4th or a 7th?

by this logic, we should trade hardy for a 7th rounder if we don't plan to re-sign him

something is better than nothing!!

anyway, like I said before, I hope we got at least a 5th for Beason. A 6th-7th is worth damn near nothing, even a 5th isn't a huge haul or anything but at least it's somewhat decent

You hate Peppers because he wanted to leave a shitty team in a small market, where half the fan base always disliked him because of his alma mater so he could join a good team with a great defense in a major market and still get paid big bucks....

So you hated a generous John Kasay and wouldnt root for him bc he was "CUT" and went to go play for a competitive team in Nola? LMAFO

It benefits Beason, no doubt. Though I think it's yet to be seen whether or not it benefits us.

he wasn't doing anything here. he wasn't productive. he was a backup at MLB and a backup at OLB. he wasn't even seeing any playtime.

we got a pick for a guy that we weren't using and who would have walked away for nothing next year.

it's a win.

For those clamoring over the "we could have gotten a comp pick for beast" argument... Well, we might have. Maybe. It would have also been a late round pick. We could not use that pick to package and trade if the right scenario were to pop up. With the pick acquired from the Giants, we can opt to trade it if we see the need to move up for a prospect.

That and the way the Giants look what ever draft pick we got will be at the top of the round. Not the bottom like a Comp pick

lol cite three guys who came back and were world-beaters again day one.... to prove that the guy who came back and couldn't tackle or run should have garnered more on the trading block.

yes ... yes it's all making sense now

Beason isn't playing at the same level as any of those people.

We got a pick for a player that was going to walk.

He is not as good as Blackburn at the OLB spot.

This gives the Panthers one more pick and Beason another shot at his career not tanking.

If you are really the fan of the Panthers and Beason you say you are you will be able to see how this trade benefits both Beason and the Panthers.

Beason isn't even fully healed up yet! Rivera has alluded to it all year saying that "he's working his way back to football shape"

Beason is basically like Peyton was last year. Playing not at even close to 90%... And I'm not talking up being dinged up (because everyone is at this point) I'm talking about coming back from a serious injury like Beasons was.

I don't expect Beason to come back next year and have a Peyton"esque" type of year at the MLB position; but I DEFINITELY think he was worth better than a "late round pick" let's assume its best was a 5th... We traded a DESPERATE 0-5 at the time Giants team that was DESPERATE for a solid MLB and we GAVE them Beason for a "late round pick"

Anybody that's singin "something is better than nothing" is absolutely right... And it is better than getting nothing for him... But that's NOT my argument. My argument is that he is still worth more than that, and we COULD have and SHOULD have gotten more.

If you think that BeasTon isn't using "late round pick" as motivation y'all are crazy!! You know Beason, and you know he's not close to done.

The FO got this one wrong in MY opinion. You guys are entitled to your own opinions, and I guess in a couple of years, when this all plays out, and we get the pick and make the "Jon Beason" trade slection in the draft, we'll see who was right.

I'm happy for Jon, happy he gets another shot. He certainly deserves it... And he's gonna make Gettleman look silly as hell for dealing him for a "late round pick" wait and see

and with the paycut he took and the lack of playtime he would have been receiving...it's not likely that we would have gotten a very good comp pick anyway.

comp picks are based on some funky formula that takes into consideration the players salary, amount of play time, and success in the post season with his new team, tho salary carries the biggest weight. the fact that he was drafted in the first round once upon a time and that he was in multiple pro-bowls wouldn't matter. also that comp pick couldn't have been traded. the pick that we got from the giants can be traded which would be more useful.

Scot, I think you're a great poster, but I have to question how this is the Giants doing us a favor...

Is a late round pick really better than Beason, even current Beason? Regardless we have to pay his salary this year, so our options were...

Paying for a top-flight MLB, employing a hobbled once-great LB, getting a 6-7th compensatory pick, or

Paying for a top-flight MLB, trading him for a 6-7th round pick

I don't know, I think I'd take a shell of Beason as a backup over nothing at all.

At this point, the comparison was between a late round pick and a guy who played one snap in an entire game.

In that case, yeah, I take the late round pick.

Beason just isn't an outside guy.  If he's gonna be anything, it's gonna be in the middle.

Again, barring injury, the chances of that happening here were approximately 0.0 (with a 0% margin of error)

Hate is a strong word. Besides, I never said anything about Kasay. You are mistaken. Carolina didn't want him, I didn't hate on him or care at all that he signed with New Orleans.

How could we?

How should we?

If no team was willing to give more than the Giants, how could or should we have gotten more? If we can decide what other teams want to give for our players, then we COULD and SHOULD trade Fua for 8 1st round picks.

The market set the price, you just have to deal with it.

That's the problem. Nobody on this forum knows what was or wasn't done in regards to shopping Beason... We don't know if he was shopped at all for that matter and likely will never find out. I agree that the market sets the value, and for a team desperate for a MLB I believe that we could have gotten more.

You have every right to disagree with me. My opinion won't be changed though, so please don't waste your time trying to do so.
