Jon Beason Active....

I see a lot of "something is better than nothing" arguments, which of course is true, but don't forget that if he were to walk in FA we could get a compensatory pick. Now I'm not saying we'd get a 3rd of 4th, but if he would have walked and plays up to say a 5th rounder, is that not better than the 6th or 7th rumored in this deal? Heck, even if he walked and netted us the same value as what we end up getting, I'd take an extra 13 weeks of Beason in case we have some injuries.

I know it's the "What if?" game, but I'm not sure I can get behind this trade unless it's for a 5th, which I don't think the Giants would have agreed too. *sigh*

Yeah, you let him walk away in FA for nothing at all...

Ah yes... The something for nothing argument.

Too bad you don't realize that we should have gotten more than a "late" round pick for him.

I'm not the one starting this argument. It's obvious out GM hooked up his former team on this one.

We should have gotten more for Beason... Just like my first post stated in this thread.

Nobody was giving us higher than a late round pick for the guy they saw playing those first few weeks.

Gettleman didn't do the Giants a favor.  Heck, they probably did us one.

It's not 2010 anymore.  Congrats to Jon on one (semi) good game.  Let's see if he lasts the rest of the year before rolling up our tinfoil hats.

Yeah, totally should have gotten more for a guy that had made like 23 tackles in the past two years. He was a probowler, but ever since his Achilles he's never been anything but mediocre. You're hanging on what Beason use to be, which he sure as hell isn't any longer.

We'd have been LUCKY to get a 5th for him, if even. Anything above that? No chance in hell.

Scot, I think you're a great poster, but I have to question how this is the Giants doing us a favor...

Is a late round pick really better than Beason, even current Beason? Regardless we have to pay his salary this year, so our options were...

Paying for a top-flight MLB, employing a hobbled once-great LB, getting a 6-7th compensatory pick, or

Paying for a top-flight MLB, trading him for a 6-7th round pick

I don't know, I think I'd take a shell of Beason as a backup over nothing at all.

lol cite three guys who came back and were world-beaters again day one.... to prove that the guy who came back and couldn't tackle or run should have garnered more on the trading block.

yes ... yes it's all making sense now

Beason isn't playing at the same level as any of those people.

We got a pick for a player that was going to walk.

He is not as good as Blackburn at the OLB spot.

This gives the Panthers one more pick and Beason another shot at his career not tanking.

If you are really the fan of the Panthers and Beason you say you are you will be able to see how this trade benefits both Beason and the Panthers.
