Morale? Distractions? Do they Exist?

Beason has been a leader in our locker room seven seasons now. Does a trade like this impact the Panthers as they prepare for the Cardinals?

In 2012 the Panthers played a 1-10 Chiefs team that had just suffered a tragedy. Jovan Belcher murdered his girlfriend before murdering himself in front of the Chiefs stadium with members of the coaching staff present. The Chiefs, led by Brady Quinn went on to beat a hot Carolina Panthers team for their second and final win of the season. The media, fans, and players talked about how the Chiefs came together in the wake of tragedy to win one for? Jovan? Does this make sense?

In 2011 the Oakland raiders were reeling from the death of long time and beloved owner Al Davis. The day after Al's passing the Raiders defeated a far superior Houston Texans team in dramatic fashion. Everyone present said they did it for Al and it was an emotional feel in the locker room.

There are many more examples of teams winning or losing from distractions or coming together after tragedy. Do you guys buy into this stuff? I've always felt like it's only a distraction if you lose. Likewise, it's only overcoming adversity if you win. My point is the games are decided on the field. The media jumps to the conclusion that these outside influences have affected the game but perhaps they don't. Perhaps the Chiefs had a good game plan or the Texans overlooked the Raiders. Perhaps it's somewhere in the middle. What say you huddle?

Why do folks act like Beason was the only leader on the entire team? It's like without him we're going to be running around like headless chickens. We have other guys who have stepped up into leadership roles. Not really worried about our team having enough leadership.

Guys might think about Beast, but not as much as the haterz will have you believe. They'll do something that reminds them of Beast, think about for few seconds, then get on with the job at hand. They are not sitting around the campfire telling Beast stories.

Guys will miss him. But they are not dwelling on it. There is too much work to do to spend time on the past.

The biggest distraction is from fans whose love of Beast has blinded them to the truth. Beast was loved, but he was not playing, and probably would never see the field again as a Panther. We did not get a lot out of him, some money and a highish pick. But honestly, We could be considered lucky to get that.

It was smart football to get something out of a player that was not giving, and probably never would give, anything.

Love Beast, remember him fondly, but let it go. His time as a Panther was already on the wall when he could not see the field this year.

At the end of the day, the NFL is a business and the players are the employees. That said, players get cut, traded, or just signs with another team despite making friends with teammates but in the end it is all business and players know that. It comes with the territory when being a NFL player.

I don't see how this is a distraction, as most of you say.

He didn't play at all last year, he played one snap last week although nothing was holding him back from playing the whole game, and he was not missed in that game.

Luke K has MLB on lockdown, and Beason has been replaced.

The NFL season is filled with distractions.  The good teams navigate around them ie the Broncos and Von Miller.   The bad teams crumble .ie Josh Freeman and Tampa.

This isn't a popular starter being traded for rebuilding.  Or a salary cap only move for a team getting ready to pack up and move.  This was a good player who has been oft injured, being given the opportunity to play his natural position somewhere else.  I think it would have been a bigger distraction if he had stayed on the team.  He went to Ron Rivera to ask for more playing time.   What happens to the locker room when one of your most popular players start asking for playing time even though he is not the best option?   Thomas Davis and Smitty were definitely going to take his side, but what about everyone else?

This trade was the best move for everyone involved.   It's just taking some of you longer to realize it.

Why can't this be a rallying cry for us? Win it for Beat kinda thing? Us against the world, we'll show them for trading Beast? Lots of reasons to turn this into a positive. Or not. Cuz football is a move on type of game.

Players come and go, for a variety of reasons. We will miss Beast, but we still have a game to play.

The rest of the players should already be used to this sort of thing. Players come and go.

Losing a head coach that is well respected by the players during midseason probably would have much more of an effect on the morale of the team...yet many of you were or still are calling for his head (me included).
