I still don't think we did this as a "nice gesture" to Beason.

He was relegated to a back-up role. He was going to walk at season end and we would gave gotten nothing for him.

We got a pick for a back-up player who was in his last year with the team.

Smart business decision

 

It could still be considered a nice gesture on their part.  They didn't have to accommodate him.

 

I would agree that I don't think Gettleman would have done it unless he thought it could benefit the team in some form.
